Hi Central Ohio.

Welcome to GHASD Fresh Farms – Specialty Crops, a community education initiative focused on gardening, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture.

We host monthly events throughout the year with hands-on training to help families grow healthy food in Ohio. You’ll learn practical skills like soil preparation, seasonal planting, garden care, and harvesting—step by step, in a welcoming space.

Thank you to USDA, the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), and Ohio Specialty Crop partners for supporting this work.

For updates and upcoming events, follow GHASD Fresh Farms. For more information, contact us at [email protected].

On March 14, 2026, the GHASD Fresh Farm Initiative hosted a community education program focused on specialty crop production, home gardening, and nutrition education to strengthen food security, improve community health, and build household-level self-sufficiency across Central Ohio.

The program highlighted research-informed practices and practical skill-building, connecting participants to methods that support sustainable production and informed food choices.

We sincerely thank the management at 3770 West Broad St, Columbus, Ohio, for welcoming our event and supporting community-based learning. We also thank the entire Central Ohio community for your strong participation, thoughtful questions, and commitment to learning together.

We were honored to welcome Natasha, who shared meaningful insights shaped by her roots in East Africa and her organization’s ongoing community work. Her perspective added depth to conversations on agriculture, resilience, and community development.

We also acknowledge Forbes Lipschitz, Professor of Landscape Architecture at The Ohio State University, whose expertise strengthened discussion on land stewardship, site planning, and community-scale growing design. Dr. Don Leonard, educator at The Ohio State University, provided research-based guidance and practical recommendations related to specialty crop best management practices and seasonally appropriate methods for Central Ohio growers.

We appreciate the presence and support of Mark, State Representative for Ohio House District 10, whose engagement reinforced the importance of collaboration to expand access to agricultural education and healthy food resources.

We extend sincere gratitude to USDA, the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), and Ohio Specialty Crop partners and supporters for investing in community-driven education and strengthening local food systems across Ohio.

Finally, we recognize the leadership of the GHASD Fresh Farm Initiative team for organizing and delivering a strong learning experience. Special recognition goes to Kawther Musa, Educational Training Coach, for guiding participant learning through structured instruction and community-centered engagement.

Pathways to Success: Refugee Youth Workforce Development & Leadership Program

Cincinnati Youth & Community Job Fair

Background & Context

Date: March 13, 2026

Location: Clifton Branch, Cincinnati Public Library

City of Cincinnati, Ohio

Global Humanitarian Aid & Social Development, INC. (GHASD) launched the Cincinnati Youth & Community Job Fair as part of the Pathways to Success: Refugee Youth Workforce Development & Leadership Program.

This initiative responds to the ongoing needs of youth and young adults, particularly those from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, who face structural barriers to entering and advancing in the labor market.

Many participants must navigate limited professional networks, language and cultural barriers, and a lack of access to clear information about how to prepare for work and connect with opportunities.

The Job Fair was designed as a bridge between potential and preparedness.

By bringing youth and young adults together in an accessible public space, the event focused on resume development, job readiness, and individualized support for unemployed and underemployed job seekers.

Participants received guidance on building professional resumes, identifying transferable skills, and understanding next steps in their career pathways.

The Clifton Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library provided an inclusive, community-anchored setting where participants could focus on preparation, confidence-building, and connection to resources.

This initiative is funded by the City of Cincinnati Human Services Fund and supported in partnership with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati.

Their investment enables GHASD to coordinate outreach, job readiness support, and wraparound services that not only prepare participants for employment, but also advance broader goals of economic mobility, neighborhood stability, and long-term workforce readiness in Cincinnati.

Building on the momentum of this event, GHASD will host a subsequent Cincinnati Youth & Community Job Fair that brings together employers, job seekers, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teachers and students.

The next phase will integrate direct employer engagement with language and learning support, creating a comprehensive space where participants can connect with hiring representatives, practice communication skills, and strengthen both their employment readiness and English proficiency.

Today, I’m sharing my interview with Ohio Somali TV / SONNA Production LLC about the GHASD Fresh Farm Initiative and the work we are carrying out through the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Specialty Crop Block Grant.

The GHASD Fresh Farm Initiative is designed to strengthen community knowledge and practical skills related to home gardening and nutrition. Through hands-on education, we support families in learning how to grow fresh produce, make informed nutrition decisions, and increase access to specialty crops. Our aim is to promote healthier households while building long-term wellbeing through learning, consistency, and community partnership.

Thank you to Ohio Somali TV for helping us share this message with the broader community, and thank you to the GHASD Fresh Farm Initiative team for your continued commitment and hard work. I also encourage Central Ohio residents to join us for our next education and training event on February 21, 2026, on the West Side of Columbus, Ohio. We look forward to welcoming you and learning together.
