🩺 We're excited to welcome Barbara Murrell as our guest for the June MedChat!

🗓️ Join us virtually on Monday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

From Miss Tennessee State University (TSU, 1959–60) to becoming the first female Vice President at TSU and on the Tennessee Board of Regents, Ms. Murrell’s leadership has shaped generations. She continues that impact as founding administrator of the Dr. Levi Watkins Jr. Institute, which is a direct pipeline designed to recruit, train and prepare students for careers in medicine and dentistry.

Ms. Murrell will speak about their pathway program and how it prepares the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Tap the link in our bio or visit madeformedicine.circle.so/home to join our online community and RSVP. The event is free and open to the public. You do not have to a current or past participant of MFM. We look forward to seeing you there!

Critical care is needed everywhere. Last week, 10th grade Phase 3 students learned about how critical care in the air and on the ground supports other healthcare providers and patient outcomes.

We were so excited to be hosted again by - Columbus-based nonprofit air and ground critical care organization, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transportation Systems (CAMTS). They complete thousands of patient transports every year!

Students engaged in small group exercises to showcase different aspects of the job of a critical care provider.

“We almost send a subliminal message to the kids, that we have become physicians and successfully created this career for ourselves. But also — you can do it, too.”

⚕️Our 10th grade Phase 3 students recently learned more about healthy policy.

Led by Robin L. Blair-Ackison, who serves as an analyst for the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, students explored the impact of local, state and federal decisions on our communities.

They explored topics like mental health, food deserts and juvenile justice.

Having this knowledge about health equity prepares students to make connections in how doctors respond to their patients and to the changing landscape.
