Indiana Wing, Civil Air Patrol

Indiana Wing, Civil Air Patrol Volunteers serving America's communities, saving lives, and shaping futures. Indiana Wing Civil Air Patrol was established in 1941 by its first Commander, Col.

Walker Winslow. Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 555 single-engine aircraft and 2,250 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and performs about 90% of all search and rescue operations within the contiguous United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Of

ten using innovative cellphone forensics and radar analysis software, CAP was credited by the AFRCC with saving 108 lives last year. CAP’s 58,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. As a nonprofit organization, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace education using national academic standards-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education resources. Members also serve as mentors to over 24,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs. Indiana Wing Civil Air Patrol consists of approximately 1,100 volunteers with nearly 60% of those cadets. With seven single-engine airplanes and one balloon, Indiana Wing provides, on an annual basis, about 800 CAP, Air Force ROTC, and Air Force JROTC cadet orientation flights. In addition, every year Indiana Wing hosts Civil Air Patrol's National Emergency Services Academy as well as the Air Force's Rated Preparatory Program at Camp Atterbury in central Indiana.

C/CMSgt Schmidt reports:

Today was the cadets’ last full day of the INWG Summer Encampment. During the day, they had a final inspection of their uniforms and dorms given by the Encampment and Cadet commanders, and graduation practice. In the evening, cadets celebrated their hard work with a pizza dinner and some time outside to socialize with one another in a civilian environment with dancing, frisbee, soccer, and other games.

Tomorrow, the graduation parade begins at 10:45 am EST. If you would like to watch, but cannot attend, it will be live streamed on this page. See you all tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be one of the proudest moments of accomplishment your cadet has had in their young life. They have completed something many of them didn’t think they could do, or at least not do easily. Many have conquered homesickness or have had to deal with other stressors to get to this point. When they take the field tomorrow, they find them to be “locked-in” as they participate in a traditional military ceremony called a “Pass in Review.” This is a somber tradition handled with great dignity and respect. They will remain at positions of strict military bearing, but their eyes will be searching for you.

At check-in you learned what flight your cadet is in. Here is a map to help you find your cadet more easily on the field. If you have any questions or needs, please feel free to ask any uniformed senior member who is not engaged in the ceremony.

We want to thank you for allowing INWG to share this incredible week with your cadet!

Now get ready to cheer when your cadet’s flight passes in front of you.

They made it!!!

The graduation parade will take place on Saturday, 13 June at 10:45 a.m. at Warrior Soccer Field. Use 1600 E Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN.

It looks like it will be warm and sunny, but this Indiana, so bring your sunscreen and pack an umbrella just in case.

After graduation, cadets will be released to their parents. This process may take a few minutes, so please be patient while we complete this process.

Pick up by a Non-Parent/Non-Guardian. Your cadet will only be released to one of the people listed on their initial application form. If there is any change from who you initially listed for cadet pick-up, then email that information to [email protected]. Make sure the pick-up person has an ID. If the cadet drives themselves, this step is not required. However, if they traveled with their squadron, carpooled, etc., this step is mandatory!

The graduation ceremony will be live-streamed here.

During Day 5 of the INWG Encampment, cadets went off base to visit the 122nd Fighter Wing Air National Guard Base. While they were there, they got to hear from several military personnel about careers they could pursue with the ANG. ATS students went to the ropes challenge.

After parade practice, cadets were treated with a trip to the pool to promote camaraderie, socialization, and fun. Cadets noted that this was a nice break after the intensity of the past several days.

Tomorrow, cadets will receive a final inspection and get photos with their flights. Family not able to attend the graduation ceremony on Saturday, will be able to watch it via live stream right here on Indiana Wing, Civil Air Patrol.

It’s Day 4 of the Indiana Wing Summer Encampment and the intensity has started to wind down, as the fun of encampment really begins. From launching rockets to touring the 122nd Fighter Wing, cadets have been doing it all. As we near the end of the week and graduation approaches, all of Encampment has begun meeting together to practice the Pass-in-Review parade ceremony. Due to all of the hot weather, cadets have been making sure to hydrate even more, as well as spending more time inside. Tomorrow will help cool them down, as there is an Encampment-wide pool party. A staple of fun for the Indiana Encampment.
