Most people who have health insurance still don't have adequate coverage for outpatient mental health services. This means that when individuals reach the end of their rope and finally decide they need to talk to someone - to get help - they can't.
To help solve this problem, we started the Georgia Mental Health Access Alliance in February of this year. By May, we had formed a partnership with an existing organization in Columbus, GA, and we began our mission of providing financial assistance to people who need to see a mental health counselor but cannot afford it.
Since May of this year, we have helped pay for 92 counseling sessions. This means 92 instances where individuals could consult a counselor, step back from difficult situations, and receive assistance with mental health issues.
We're honored to be in a position to do something about this problem, and we're humbled to have the opportunity to work with great partners in the local mental health community.
Like every non-profit, we survive on public donations. However, unlike many non-profits, every dollar donated to the Georgia Mental Health Access Alliance goes directly toward funding counseling services. We are in a unique position to be able to operate this way. We do not require salaries and have minimal operational expenses and overhead. We offer a streamlined platform, purpose-built to allow our vetted mental health partners real-time access to grant funds. These funds are then allocated to patients who cannot afford to pay for counseling.
This process cuts out the red tape and headaches typically associated with most healthcare benefit programs and simply provides help when it's needed. Even better, our platform provides full transparency into the disbursement of donated funds, so we always know where, when, and how donated funds are allocated—all while preserving privacy and maintaining full patient anonymity.
Our goal is to make mental health care easily accessible for everyone. Our board of directors has invested heavily in the success of our program, and we have been blessed to receive many individual donations this year.
Our mental health partners are seeing patients in need every week. A key aspect of our solution is the real-time tracking of needs. For example, our current need is $350. This amount will pay for six mental health counseling sessions.
Below is a link to our campaign page. Donations made through this link will meet our current need of $350, with any excess funds applied to future needs throughout the year.
For the next 14 days, we have a generous corporate donor who will match any donations received from individuals on this campaign. That's people like you, and people like me who can make a real difference. If you can help support this mission, please do. Any amount is appreciated.
