Advice for International Students

The F-1 student visa is a nonimmigrant visa for individuals who wish to study in the United States. The requirements for the F-1 visa interview vary depending on the embassy or consulate where you are applying, but generally you will need to provide the following:

A valid passport: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you plan to leave the United States.

A completed Form DS-160: This is the online visa application form. You will need to provide personal and educational information, and upload a photo.

A valid Form I-20: This form is issued by your school and confirms that you have been accepted into a full-time academic program.

Proof of financial support: You will need to show that you have the financial resources to cover your tuition and living expenses while you are in the United States.

Evidence of your ties to your home country: You will need to show that you have strong ties to your home country and that you plan to return after completing your studies.

A valid TOEFL score: If English is not your native language, you may be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and provide a valid score.

It's also a good idea to review the embassy's or consulate's website for specific requirements and to bring all required documents with you to the interview

Here the timeline for the application season for American universities!

June–August
• Take standard exams (SAT, ACT, TOEFL etc)
• Pre-write and complete personal statement
September
• Finalize Common App Essay.
• Decide early action vs decision.
October
• Modify your Common App Essay
November
• Submit your application early.
• Complete essays for regular decision
December
• Submit applications for regular decision.
◦ (Note: While early decision acceptances are considered binding, you can request that the admissions committee release you from your obligation to attend there if they do not meet enough of your financial need)
January–March
• Complete admissions interviews whenever offered. (Note: Interviews for early action or early decision schools will take place sooner.)
