As we close out our neighbor spotlight, we want to take a moment to thank all 16 individuals we’ve had the honor and privilege to spotlight as part of our campaign. These everyday heroes truly make us proud to call Columbus home.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Young, Lead Pastor of the City of Grace Church. Columbus born and bred, his career path may not have been what he expected, but his innate authenticity and measured approach to problem-solving has made him a pillar of his community and a perfect change agent for a city grappling with issues that take all of us coming together to solve. Inspired by the hard work of his parents, civic leaders, and his family, Michael has put into action programming that connects neighbors to resources, and investments into solving issues of food insecurity. Along the way, his thoughtful and practical manner have created opportunities within his church and beyond that will surely inspire the next generation to contribute to the positive change in Columbus.

Our 2022 digital campaign may be over but we still have a few more neighbors to introduce you to this week!

Say hello to Habiba Bankston, Executive Director of Dress for Success - Columbus. Although Brooklyn-born, Habiba is now inspired by her adopted home city of Columbus. Her day to day role affords her an opportunity to support and uplift women to their next best not only on the outside, but through networking and programming aimed at closing gaps for women in the workforce from new graduates, to seasoned professionals. Outside of the office, Habiba is also championing a very personal cause as founder of Beyond the Cell, a movement educating and advocating for those impacted by Sickle Cell Disease. A mother and wife, it’s safe to say that Habiba is taking the encouragement and inspiration of other before her to carve a new path to passionately serve her community.

Hello weekend, say hello to Sizzle Perry, Founder and CEO of Crafted Culture Brewing.

Growing up in the Berwin neighborhood, Sizzle’s journey from neighborhood basketballer to entrepreneur started with funnel cake, or more specifically, an understanding of profit margins and marketing of the sweet confection when working summers at fairs and events. The food industry may not have interested him, but Sizzle recognized a lack of representation in the brewing industry and never looked back. Now he is invested in giving back to Columbus and the future generation of black brewers. Never too shy to crack a joke, Sizzle can be found trash talking visiting fans at an OSU tailgate, taking in the sights and sounds at the Rumba Cafe, or investing in new opportunities to make beer more accessible and “beer the change” in Columbus.
