Treatment alone is ineffective,
bridging the gap post treatment is essential. By transforming her life, generations of lives are forever changed. OpenDoor-Columbus was founded by three moms: Leslie Kristoff, Rachel Muha and me, Tammy Foeller. Two of us, Leslie, and myself, desperate for our daughters to stop using drugs and one, Rachel, devastated by the death of her son murdered by men high on dr
ugs. Our lives brought together by sadness, pain, heartache – and hope. Our children had never met yet brought us together. Leslie and I met in Al Anon and became fast friends sharing the secrets of having a loved one drowning in addiction. It was Leslie that said, “we have to do something to help women like our daughters.” For guidance, we reached out to Rachel, the founder of the Brian Muha Foundation following the murder of her son, Brian, in 1999. Soon following, Tina Husted introduced us to The Open Table Model of Change. This Model has been used for almost 18 years across the United States and OpenDoor-Columbus became a licensed user. The model works like this: OpenDoor-Columbus offers one year of free services (a Table) to a woman (a Friend) in recovery from addiction. Tables are composed of 6-8 volunteers, trained by Open Table. Volunteers spend one hour a week for one year advocating, mentoring, and encouraging their Friend. While the Tables are successful in changing lives, Tables belong in homes. The need for certified recovery homes remains a priority. OpenDoor-Columbus intends to meet the strict guidelines of Ohio Recovery Housing providing quality recovery homes for women desperate to get off the streets. Join our mission to transform lives in Columbus- your life will be transformed too.
