Research shows that children exposed to harsh or critical language over time are more likely to experience increased stress responses and lower self-esteem, while consistent positive language is linked to stronger emotional development and resilience. The way we speak to and around kids can literally shape how they see themselves and the world.

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 🚨
Elizabeth Gwin Session of Camp Tim-A-Witha!

We currently have a waiting list for camp due to a shortage of volunteers.

We’re looking for volunteers 18+ who can attend training July 5–6 and serve through July 11. Applications are due June 12 to allow time for background checks.

If you know someone who loves working with individuals with special needs and enjoys summer camp, please share this post!

📩 Please scan the QR code for more information or to apply. Help us make sure every camper gets the chance to attend! ❤️🏕️☀️

A new month brings a new opportunity to show up for inclusion in real, everyday ways. That means celebrating differences without comparison, building understanding through patience, and making space for every ability to be seen and valued!

Today, we recognize Global Day of Parents! A day set aside to honor the lifelong commitment, patience, and love that parents give every single day.

For parents of children with special needs, that commitment often looks like early mornings, late nights, countless appointments, advocacy in every room, and a level of strength most people never see. The work is constant, but so is the love behind it. Today is for you!!

It’s not something we highlight for a month and then set aside. It’s a daily commitment. Real inclusion means creating spaces where every person is valued, supported, and welcomed in every season of life, not just when it’s trending.

Get outside, their way! Nature doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. For some, it’s running wide open in the sunshine. For others, it’s sitting quietly under a tree, feeling the breeze, or taking in the sounds at their own pace.

For children with special needs, the best outdoor moments come when we follow their lead instead of a set expectation. There’s no “right” way to experience nature, only what feels right for them!

Camp BOLD is back this summer, hosted by The Arc Northwest Mississippi 🎪

This inclusive camp creates a safe, welcoming space for individuals with disabilities to connect, learn, and enjoy meaningful activities together. Each week brings a new age group experience, serving participants from 1st grade through adults—and this year’s theme is all about going “under the big top” for a fun, circus-inspired summer!

With activities held at Church Road Baptist Church (and special Tuesday outings at Bounz House in Southaven), Camp BOLD is designed for connection, joy, and belonging! https://www.thearcnwms.org/general-8-4

About 1 in 5 children experience a mental, emotional, or behavioral health condition each year. Behind every number is a child with strengths, challenges, and a story that deserves understanding, not assumptions. Inclusion is how we turn awareness into real support.
