Then get ready for Starkville Pride Drag Show on April 29th at Rick's Cafe! Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:30! Get your tickets early for $20 or at the door for $25. Beck Ehardt, a member of Justice for Jay Lee, asked that this message be shared to the Q***r Space group: "I am reaching out to you since I believe you would like to support our cause.
If you’re unaware, Jimmy Jay Lee was an LGBTQ+ student and activist. He was murdered by a former classmate, Timothy Sheldon Harrison.
In January of 2022, Mississippi legislature declined to expand the state’s hate crime laws to include the LGBTQ+ community.
Our goal is to provide justice for Jay Lee and encourage our officials to include the LGBTQ+ community in the definition of hate crimes.
On Tuesday, August 9 at 10am, the accused has a bond hearing and we will rally in the square to show our support for Jay Lee. We need the entire LGBTQ+ community and all our allies there to join us in the fight for our lives.
I am working on organizing a caravan from Starkville to Oxford, so more details to come on that later.
It would be amazing if you could help spread the word about the rally so we can show our lawmakers that the LGBTQ+ community will not accept death because of who we are.
If you would like to be more involved, please let me know! Jay Lee’s family is accepting monetary donations and we are taking donations of water, PPE, and snacks for the upcoming rally. Can we expect a number of your members to attend?
