NBBI leadership participated in the 2026 STI/SPFA Legislative Fly-In, held June 10-11 in Washington, D.C. The annual event brings together industry leaders and lawmakers to discuss issues affecting the steel fabrication, tank, pipe, pressure vessel, and coatings industries.
On the first day, Executive Director Joel Amato, Director of Operations-Software and Security Mark Mooney, and Assistant Executive Director-Administrative Mike Pischke met with U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (second from right), D-Massachusetts, to highlight priorities important to the boiler and pressure vessel industry.
Joel and Mike also met with U.S. Rep. David Taylor (R-Ohio), who presented them with commemorative challenge coins in recognition of their participation and advocacy on behalf of the industry.
NBBI appreciates the opportunity to engage with policymakers and help advance conversations that support safety, manufacturing, and workforce development.

Failures in high-energy systems can lead to injuries, fatalities, and costly outages, but the greatest risk may be something many organizations take for granted: the quality of their nondestructive examination (NDE) programs.
In the latest issue of the BULLETIN, experts from EPRI examine how inaccurate inspections, poor documentation, and a lack of proficiency standards can undermine integrated life management strategies and result in unnecessary repairs, wasted maintenance budgets, and increased safety risks.
As power plants continue to age and experienced personnel retire, ensuring the reliability of inservice NDE has never been more important.

Flow-assisted corrosion (FAC) can remain hidden for years before causing catastrophic failures, injuries, or costly outages.
In the latest issue of the BULLETIN, learn how FAC develops, why certain piping systems are especially vulnerable, and what inspectors can do to help identify risks before they become serious problems. The article examines notable power plant incidents and explains the role of water chemistry, operating conditions, and inspection programs in preventing damage.
Understanding FAC is an important step in helping owners protect personnel, equipment, and operations. To read the article, go to https://www.nationalboard.org/SiteDocuments/Bulletins/SP2026/SP2026.html =37 =37
