Since it is local chapter we make afghans for our local charities in GA and AL. If you are interested in helping, we ask that you crochet or knit 7 x 9 inch rectangles. Using any stitch and any color. But we do have a requirement on yarn. It needs to be a medium worsted weight acrylic. Examples of this type of yarn:
Hobby Lobby --- Crafters Secret or I Love this Yarn (acrylic). Michaels --- Red He
art or the Michaels Brand Craft Smart
Joann Fabrics --- Red Heart
Walmart --- Mainstay (Walmart brand) worsted weight. Or any yarn that feels like Medium Acrylic worsted weight...no cotton, no wool, no yarns that are not machine wash and dry. We want these afghans to last! We usually meet monthly. There will be an Event posted on FB and we send email reminders. Two of these meetings are Joining Parties...where everyone brings in their finished rectangles and we design the afghans from what rectangles are turned in. See our picture area for some of the examples of the designs. Then we have people who generously give their time and effort into joining the afghans. At the next meeting we have those afghans turned in, plus any other afghans people would like to donate. Some of our Warmer Uppers do not like doing rectangles...they like to do the whole afghans! We are good with that! The we check them over, tag and bag the afghans and then they are given to charities in our area. Some of our latest afghans were donated to:
--Valley Rescue Mission
--Damascus Way, Women's Shelter
--Ann Elizabeth Shepherd Home
--Safe House Rescue
--Hope Harbour, Battered Women's Shelter
--Columbus Hospice
--Local Nursing Homes
--Local Foster Care. We have a friendly and hardworking group...so if you are looking to help your community and have fellowship with other crocheters and knitters...we are the group for you! Come be a Warmer Upper for Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL! Thanks for thinking of those who are in need in our community.
