Summer 2025 (A Flashback to 2023)

After three summers of camp and two full years of after-school programming, we’ve grown alongside the same families and youth—building strong, lasting relationships rooted in trust and community.

Summer 2025 felt like a flashback to 2023. Once again, we were faced with one of our biggest challenges: significant funding cuts that forced us to rely on nothing but our commitment and each other.

But we knew we had to keep going—for the sake of the youth and the hope we’ve built together.

We came together not just as an organization, but as a family and a team. Despite the obstacles, we made a powerful decision: as long as the program itself was sustained, our tutors and staff would dedicate their time as volunteers.

For 10 weeks, eight hours a day, everyone showed up and gave their all. Through that dedication, we served over 50–60 youth, creating a space that was safe, fun, and full of growth and adventure.

No matter the circumstances, our mission remained the same—to empower, inspire ,advocate, and stand by our youth every step of the way.

Summer 2024 – A Season of Growth and Impact

In 2024, we finally saw our hard work begin to pay off. We were grateful to receive a few sponsorship opportunities, with the City of Columbus playing a major role in supporting our program. Because of this support, we were able to provide paid positions for our tutors and create meaningful opportunities for teens to engage with and mentor younger youth.

We are incredibly proud to be a part of these young people’s lives. For many of them, there isn’t always someone to go home to for guidance. About 80% of the youth we serve come from single-mother households, often with absent fathers. These mothers carry so much on their own, and we strive to be a source of relief, support, and consistency.

Our program is more than just a safe space—it’s a place where culture, fun, mentorship, and growth come together. We are committed to continuing this work and making a lasting impact in our community.

Summer 2023 marked the launch of the Bantu Hope Foundation Leadership Academy—our first summer dedicated to making a difference and creating a safe space for youth impacted by violence.

We knew from the beginning that it wouldn’t be easy. We faced real challenges, including limited resources—there were even days when youth had cereal without milk. But we also understood that you have to start somewhere in order to grow and be seen.

Despite these obstacles, our committed staff and volunteers gave their time and energy to ensure that 40 youth were safe and had a meaningful summer filled with opportunities, fun, and learning.

From December to January, we held a 3-week Youth Leadership Winter Camp where youth had a safe space to learn through workshops, connect with friends, and enjoy meals together during a difficult time of year. In addition, we supported families by hosting multiple food drives in partnership with Our Helpers. Our weekly community conversations continued, ensuring ongoing connection, support, and dialogue within the community.
