Shelby County 4-H This page is dedicated to Shelby County 4-H programming as a link to tie in clubs, volunteers, participants and those interested in learning more about us.

4-H is a "learn-by-doing" youth development
program for boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grade. 4-H involves “any kid...any time...anywhere” through one-time events, camps, organized 4-H clubs (with officers), and activities. Youth have an array of choices in their 4-H experience. Whatever energy, creativity and involvement match the 4-H mission, values, and objectives - that is 4-H!
4-H is the youth development and education program of the Alabama Cooperative
Extension System. For nearly 100 years, Alabama 4-H has helped young people become resourceful citizens and responsible leaders. By participating in a variety of programs and projects, youth develop life skills, individuality is valued, and kids are encouraged to discover their own talents and interests. 4-H helps young people learn to make decisions, think critically, build relationships, and develop a concern for their community and their world. The mission of 4-H is to serve all youth. At the heart of Alabama 4-H’s curricula is the belief that programs must instill life-development skills. No matter the subject, 4-H instructs youth in the character values needed to be productive citizens. Alabama 4-H also teaches leadership skills because of its commitment to positive youth development.

Congratulations to Shelby County 4-Hers Hannah Yocom, Nick Weis, Zaila Randolph, Aden Massey, Braylin Madison, Samantha Huggins, and Charlotte Bell for being selected to represent Alabama 4-H as State Ambassadors! We are so proud of you!!! 🍀

Alabama 4-H recently selected a new group of 30 young leaders from 22 counties to serve as the 2026-2027 4-H State Ambassadors.

The ambassadors serve as representatives of Alabama 4-H, promoting its programs on the regional, state and national levels. They help plan state-level events, such as the Midwinter Teen Retreat and 4-H’s statewide community service project.

“Through this experience, ambassadors learn how to work as a team, manage their time, communicate effectively and take on real leadership responsibilities,” said Alabama Cooperative Extension System Specialist Joy Scott, one of the advisors of the Alabama 4-H State Ambassadors. “These are skills that extend far beyond 4-H and can be applied in school, future careers and everyday life.”

The ambassadors also assist with 4-H youth councils within their regions. They spend the year immersed in opportunities to gain leadership and organizational skills, as well as meaningful friendships.

Take a few moments now to prepare.

As Tropical Storm Isaias, pronounced ees-ah-EE-ahs, develops in the Gulf, Alabama Extension encourages everyone to review hurricane preparations at home, at work, and on the farm.

Review emergency plans and confirm important contacts.
Take steps to protect your family, property, and important records.
Prepare livestock, crops, and farm equipment.
After the storm, stay clear of fallen trees, loose debris, and downed power lines.

Monitor updates from the National Hurricane Center and your local National Weather Service office, and follow instructions from local emergency officials.

🌿💚Kicking off National 4-H Week with “hands to larger service”! 💚🌿

Members of the Shelby County Youth Leadership Council and the Great Outdoors Club kicked off National 4-H Week by putting the words of the 4-H Pledge into action: “hands to larger service.” 🙌🍀

Our youth spent time cleaning up a local creek trail in Shelby County, giving back to their community while caring for the environment. Their hard work is a wonderful example of 4-H youth leading through service and making a difference right here at home! 🌎🌱

Here’s to a week of service, leadership, and making the best better! 💚

A big thank you to John DeLoach with DeLoach Farms for spending time with our 4-H Agriculture Club today and teaching our members how to pull strawberry beds! We’re grateful for the opportunity for our youth to learn directly from a local farmer. 🚜

We also want to thank the Shelby County Farmers Federation for their support in making this agriculture club possible. Your investment in our youth and Alabama agriculture is helping create meaningful learning opportunities and inspire the next generation of farmers and agricultural leaders. 🌾❤️
