A day of digging into the details behind potato production. 🥔🔬🌱

We recently spent time at a Yara International Field Day at C.A.Perry & Son Inc's Chowan Farms in Tyner, NC, where growers and ag partners gathered to take a closer look at calcium nitrate trials happening this season.

From crop nutrition conversations to in-field observations, it was a great opportunity to see the research and innovation helping support North Carolina potato growers behind the scenes.

Thanks to Yara International and Chowan Farms for having us out!

From dirt rows to a flower show! 🥔🌸

Back in March, these Atlantic potatoes were just getting tucked into the ground at Double Dee Farms in Columbia, NC. Fast forward to May, and the fields are putting on a full bloom performance and getting ready to be harvested in just a few weeks.

North Carolina’s potato season helps between growing regions, supplying fresh potatoes while many northern states are still waiting for their season to get underway later in the summer.

Pretty flowers now… potato chips and cookout side dishes coming soon! 😎

Did you know the average American eats around 110 pounds of potatoes each year? 🇺🇸🥔

But before they end up in grocery stores and dinner plates across the region, NC potatoes go through five different growth stages.

From sprouts to harvest, a whole lot is happening beneath those fields. SHARE this post to spread the word about ! 📨

Potato blooms are one of the prettiest signs of the season in eastern North Carolina. 🌸🥔

Fields are starting to fill with soft white, pink, and purple flowers, signaling an important stage in the growing process happening underground. While the blooms steal the spotlight above the soil, the potatoes below are actively developing and sizing up for harvest season.

These blooms don’t stick around for long, which makes this time of year feel a little extra special across NC potato country. And yes, the bees love them too! 🐝

Take a walk through the history of NC potato farming, one bag at a time! 🥔📜

These are just a few examples of bags used by different growers over the years, each one representing a piece of North Carolina’s rich agricultural story.

As the oldest commodity group in North Carolina, the NC Potato Association has been supporting growers for generations, with potatoes remaining a staple in our fields, communities, and on our plates.
