Community Volunteers Help Bring Lake Elkhorn’s New Pollinator & Rain Gardens to Life

Thirty-six dedicated community volunteers joined Columbia Association staff from multiple departments to plant more than 900 native shrubs and perennials as part of the Lake Elkhorn Walkable Pollinator & Rain Garden project.

The project’s connected chain of five rain gardens is now planted and ready to begin managing stormwater runoff while providing valuable habitat for birds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators. A new pathway invites visitors into the gardens, and three benches offer a place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in making this project a reality. If you haven’t visited yet, we encourage you to stop by. The gardens are located on the west side of Lake Elkhorn near Brokenland Parkway and will continue to grow, mature and become even more beautiful with each passing season.

Columbia Association will be replacing the Bridge OBBR09 starting the week of June 8th, 2026. We expect this project to take about a week, weather permitting. The pathway will be closed during construction.

Once the bridge installation is complete, a contractor will be scheduled to pave the bridge approaches; more information will be sent once they have been scheduled. Signs have been posted on-site to notify the public about the project.

The CA Board of Directors held its first meeting of the fiscal year on 14 May. This was purely an organizational meeting: Collin Sulivan was reelected as chair and I was reelected as Vice Chair.

Please be sure to take advantage of a summer full of free events at CA's lakefront. If you haven't done so already, be sure to check out lakefront.columbiaassociation.org for a full schedule of events. Please stop me and say hello if you spot me there.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who participated in Owen Brown's recent election. I'm honored to have been reelected to serve on CA's board and I look forward to a productive year empowering CA's staff and providing important oversight. Please remember that both CA and Owen Brown are overseen by volunteer directors elected by a tiny number of residents. If you are interested in getting involved in this governance, please don't wait until just before election to learn about how these organizations operate - NOW is the time to get involved rather than at the 11th hour. Attending and observing Owen Brown's meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month is a great way to get involved.

Maslow’s Loom Summer STEAM Camp is a full-day, project-based program designed for ages 6-12, where each day explores a different STEAM discipline and each week is unique.

Through hands-on learning, guided exploration, and creative play, campers build real projects, discover new ideas, and develop confidence as young problem-solvers—all in a fun, supportive environment.
