Meet your dialogue partners for Sunday!

As we gather for a special screening of 1946, we’re excited to welcome four incredible community members who will help us continue the conversation following the film.

Sam Robinson | Moderator
Sam is a Human Resources Business Partner, member of Emmaus Church, and part of the LGBTQ+ community. She believes meaningful conversations happen when we listen, stay curious, and make room for one another—and she’s excited to help bring this conversation home to South Carolina.

Rev. Tiffany Adams | Panelist
Tiffany is the founder and Senior Pastor of The Way Worship Center in Elgin and a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in faith communities. Named by GLAAD as one of six South Carolinians “Accelerating Acceptance for LGBT People,” she created the Fact vs. Fiction workshop examining and challenging religious arguments surrounding homosexuality and the Bible.

Rev. Jenny McDevitt | Panelist
Jenny is Senior Pastor and Head of Staff at Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia and a member and former moderator of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, which works toward greater LGBTQIA+ equity in church and society. She believes an affirming theology stands up to rigorous study of scripture and reflects the transformative, expansive ministry of Jesus.

Dr. Allen Miller | Panelist
Allen is Carolina Distinguished Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina and the author of twelve books exploring theory, poetry, philosophy, and the ancient world. His scholarship brings a rich academic perspective to questions of language, interpretation, and how texts shape our understanding.

We’re grateful for the wisdom, experience, and perspectives each of them will bring to this conversation, and we can’t wait for you to be part of it!

What if one mistranslated word in the Bible helped shape generations of LGBTQIA+ stigma?

This powerful documentary explores the history behind that mistranslation—and invites us to look deeper at faith, history, sexuality, and love.

The Agape Table is partnering with Emmaus Church to bring this important film to our community as part of South Carolina Pride Week. Following the screening, stick around for a brief panel discussion with local faith leaders and academics as we continue the conversation together.

Pay what you wish! All proceeds support our work creating meaningful spaces for dialogue, belonging, and community across South Carolina. Additional donations are deeply appreciated.

All are welcome. Come as you are. Stay for the conversation.

Are you joining us this evening?? Check out our panelists for the talk back following the screening. It’s sure to be a rich dialogue you don’t want to miss!

Rev. Robert Arrington (he/they) is the pastor of Unity Fellowship of Charleston, SC, and has been for the past 16 years. They authored a book called God’s Masterpiece, and founded the Nehemiah Social Justice Center, which advocates for the disinherited and addresses community needs. Rev. Arrington has been an advocate focusing on the rights and health of people living with HIV for 40 years, and has been in ministry and advocacy for 35 years. They specialize now in helping to heal those who have suffered from church trauma.

Jennifer Gerrish (she/her) is Associate Professor of Classics at the College of Charleston, where she has been faculty since 2015. Her specialty is ancient historiography, particularly the historiography of the fall of the Roman Republic. Prof. Gerrish has published two translations of Julius Caesar’s war commentaries, and her current project is a translation of three anonymous works likely written by Caesar’s generals and soldiers. She brings to this conversation a deep understanding of text translations and their importance today.

🎬🏳️‍🌈 Join us for a special film screening of 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture!

This revolutionary documentary chronicles how the misuse of a single word changed the course of modern history — tracing how a mistranslation in the Bible has cast doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Challenging, enlightening, and inspiring, it’s a film that asks us to look deeper at faith, history, and love.

The Agape Table is partnering with Church of the Arts and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church to bring this powerful film to our community as part of Park Circle Pride Week.

June 3rd at 7PM | Church of the Arts

This is a safe space and all are welcome. Following the screening, join us for a brief panel discussion with local faith leaders. No tickets needed - just show up as your authentic self!

“I came to the Agape Cohort thinking I was already a good ally. I left realizing how much I didn’t know that I didn’t know.”

The work doesn’t end when the cohort ends. It activates people to do the next right thing. It turns a moment into a long-term adventure of creating belonging wherever we go.

That work starts at the table, though. And it starts with very important people: facilitators. Or as we like to call them, “Connection Coaches.” These people create the space, set the tone, and keep the group rooted in agape throughout the entire process.

Help us train the next facilitator.
Help us retreat with our connectors.

We’re grateful we get to do this work. It’s a gift, honestly.

We’re going to keep pursuing the beloved community and welcoming everyone to the table, no matter the landscape that surrounds us.

Will you join us in creating a South Carolina where every LGBTQ+ person belongs? Every single person. Every single time.

Will you help us hit our $20,000 Midlands Gives goal!? Link in bio!

PS - huge shout out to for helping us put this together and tell our story so well!

Education is how a community shifts for the better.

In an Agape Cohort, 8-12 people sit through four months of q***r history, lived experience, and loving dialogue. They go home different. They take it with them — into their churches, workplaces, and families.

We’re in the slow, careful business of changing minds, then hearts, then communities, then systems.

It’s Midlands Gives and the table is open!

We start today where the work begins: with healing. With what’s possible and what should be.

Every dinner dialogue, every Stories Telling Us gathering, every counselor connection — those are the rooms where healing actually happens. Where a q***r kid hears their story said out loud with joy and acceptance. Where a nonbinary adult reconciles identity through dialogue. Where people find comfort and liberation in shared story and embodied belonging.

Today, your gift helps us create and sustain those rooms. And every dollar is matched up to $2500!
