Sunni Patterson was one of the many powerful voices featured at this year’s Missouri Black Maternal Health Summit.

We’re grateful she was part of this year’s experience and helped contribute to the conversations, reflections, and community that made the summit so meaningful.

Still reflecting on so many moments from this year’s summit.

See y’all next year. 💜

Not every birth story ends the way families hope it will.

And when that happens, it’s important for the family to have a grounded, healing, and safe space for comfort and processing, through a deeply nourishing support system.

That’s when your presence as a doula matters in a completely different way.

Being prepared for those moments changes how you show up.đź’›

Some of your clients are going to smile through everything.

Some may show up to appointments and say they’re “fine”, keep it moving, and still be struggling in ways no one is deeply asking about.

That’s why this part of the work matters.
Noticing what’s off, even when everything looks okay.

Doulas, it’s up to us to be aware of the signs, symptoms and ways that Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders show up in the perinatal phase.

Join us for this Doula CEU certification event.đź’›

ICYMI 🤎

We wanted to throw it back to a few of our favorite moments from this year’s Missouri Black Maternal Health Summit.

The conversations.
The reflections.
The hugs.
The moments that reminded us why this work matters.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, poured in, shared space, and helped make this year so meaningful.

And for everyone already planning to join us next year… we can’t wait to see you. 🤎

If you were in the room tag us in your photos 📸 we want to see them.

Medicaid reimbursement matters because doulas deserve to get paid for the life-changing work they do.

And in a country where healthcare access is not universal, it also means more families can access support that could genuinely change their birth experience and outcomes.

This means…
More access for families.
More sustainable careers for doulas.
Better outcomes for communities.

Win. Win. Win.

However, since the Missouri Media is Doula Reimbursement has rolled out, there have been multiple issues with being enrolled as a provider, to even begin serving families and being reimbursed.

Doulas what has been the biggest challenge or biggest win you’ve seen with Medicaid reimbursement so far? What processes will help you to succeed in enrolling?

You know how to build, guide, and move work forward with intention.

If you said yes to this, and feel deeply that you align with these affirmations, and are passionate about Maternal Health work, then-we have an opportunity for you!

We’re looking for an Associate Director to join the leadership team of Missouri’s first statewide doula organization and help drive strategy, growth, and impact.

If you’re ready to step into a role that requires vision and ex*****on, we want to hear from you.

Your presence matters, but your knowledge matters too.

When your client is navigating something like gestational diabetes, the way you show up can either ease anxiety, or add to it.

The goal is to be the person who brings calm, clarity, confidence and trusted information into the room.

That takes intention and continued learning.đź’›

You weren’t trained on billing, but somehow you’re expected to just know how to do it.

Figure out Medicaid
Figure out claims
Figure out why payments are delayed

All while still being a doula and doing the actual work.

That learning curve is real!

If you’ve had to teach yourself billing as you go, what was the hardest part for you?
