Women's Rights and Empowerment Network - WREN We advocate, educate, research, and convene in service to women and girls for a more equitable SC.

WREN, the Women's Rights and Empowerment Network, is a new organization whose mission is to build a movement to advance the health, economic well-being, and rights of South Carolina’s women, girls, and their families. WREN aims to be the voice for South Carolina’s women, girls, and gender-expansive people by:

-Advocating for laws and policies to enhance the status of women and the well-being of families;

-Educating policymakers and the public about issues that affect women, girls and their families; and,

-Empowering South Carolinians to speak up and speak out for a better state. We seek to build a diverse, inclusive, and powerful movement for the rights of women and girls.

Today is Latina Equal Pay Day and here in South Carolina, the wage gap is still costing Latina workers far too much.

And that gap doesn’t stop with one paycheck. Over the course of a career, it can shape a worker’s ability to afford housing and childcare, save for retirement, build wealth, and create economic security for herself and her family.

Pay equity is economic justice. At WREN, we’re working toward a South Carolina where every woman has the opportunity to earn fairly, build a secure future, and thrive.

This week, WREN staffer Emily Mayer shared her own experience at a public hearing of the South Carolina Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children.

What happens at the State House reaches into our everyday lives, from the childcare we can access and the workplaces we navigate to our family budgets and the choices available to us.

Public testimony is one way to make sure those real-life experiences are part of the conversation. And you don’t need to be a policy expert to speak up. Your experience is enough to start.
