One Months Rent

One Months Rent For more than ten years OMR, in conjunction with the Howard County Community Action Council, has helped more than 160 working families.

We’re the family and members of a Howard County, Maryland book club that read a disturbing account and decided to do something about it. In 2001′s “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America” author Barbara Ehrenreich went undercover and put herself in the shoes of millions of Americans who work full time at low-wage or poverty-level jobs, including some first-timers seeking employment becau

se of welfare-to-work reform programs in the 1990s. Ehrenreich traveled, chronicling her experiences working as a hotel maid, waitress, nursing-home aid, house cleaner and retail salesperson while living in the least expensive lodgings she could find. We founded OMR to do what we can to help local families who are on the edge of homelessness.

Due to an auto accident, there were further unexpected expenses until the insurance company paid what was due. These added expenses caused her to be late with her rent and she received a Failure to Pay notification, which is part of the eviction process. The issues that caused this mother to fall behind in rent have been resolved. Thanks to you and your donations, One Month’s Rent was able to cover back housing expenses and help return the family to financial stability.

100% of your donations go to families in need. OMR's Board Members cover all operating costs. One Month’s Rent (OMR) works through the Howard County Community Action Council (CAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. OMR is not a 501(c)(3) and CAC is. CAC screens applicants and ensures that qualified famili
