Missouri AfterSchool Network

Missouri AfterSchool Network MASN builds systems across MO that improve, support, & sustain high quality afterschool programs.

The Missouri AfterSchool Network (MASN) was established through a Mott Foundation Grant in 2002. MASN was developed as a statewide joint venture with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to support high-quality public and private after school programs across the state and to be their advocate. Our partnership with DESE and the University of Missouri 4-H Center for Youth Deve

lopment has provided the resources for MASN to start, strengthen, expand, and improve after school programs while providing the necessary tools, assistance, and models for emergent programs throughout Missouri.

πŸ“Š Did you know? In Missouri afterschool programs, girls in grades 6–12 are MORE likely to maintain or increase their science grades than boys β€” 75% vs. 68%.

Afterschool programs aren't just keeping kids busy. They're actively closing the gender gap in STEM β€” and creating pathways to careers that are growing 10Γ— faster than the rest of the workforce.

At the Missouri AfterSchool Network (MASN), we believe the hours beyond the school day are some of the most powerful in a young person’s life. It’s where confidence grows, skills sharpen, dreams take shape, and a stronger Missouri is built.

Since 2002, MASN has built partnerships and systems across the state that improve, support, and sustain high quality afterschool programs. We’ve been a bridge between policy and practice, opportunity and achievement, and today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce.

The need for afterschool and summer learning is surging, families are working harder than ever, and communities are calling for lasting solutions that create real impact.

This week, we celebrate YOUβ€”the dedicated professionals who inspire, educate, and support young people beyond the school day. 🌟

Every day, you create safe spaces, spark curiosity, and build relationships that help children and families thrive. And the numbers show it: In an Afterschool Alliance poll of registered voters, nearly 9 in 10 of parents (89%) said afterschool programs support young people’s social and emotional well-being.

April 20–24 is Afterschool Professional Appreciation Week, and the Missouri AfterSchool Network is grateful for everything you do. Thank you for enriching young lives, every single day. πŸ’™

Every young person deserves a high-quality afterschool program that supports their growth, spark curiosity, and help them thrive. And behind every great program is a dedicated afterschool professional β€” a mentor, educator, and champion for young people.
This week, we're shining a light on the professionals right here in Missouri who make that difference every single day.

The numbers tell the story:
βœ… 96% of Missouri parents are satisfied with their child's afterschool program
βœ… 82% of Missouri parents agree that afterschool gives kids real opportunities to build teamwork, critical thinking, and leadership skills
βœ… Missouri students who regularly attend afterschool programs improved their grades β€” including 79% of D-level students and 75% of C-level students seeing real academic gains

That kind of impact doesn't happen by accident. It happens because of the dedicated professionals who show up every day to create safe, engaging environments where Missouri's young people can grow. MASN is proud to stand behind the afterschool professionals in our state who make it possible.
How will you show appreciation this week? Drop a comment, share a story, or tag an afterschool hero you know! πŸ‘‡

πŸŽ‰ Two of our own have been named as the National AfterSchool Association (NAA) 2026 Next Generation of Afterschool Leaders honorees β€” selected from more than 140 nominations submitted across the country.

Dakota Schlechter of Ray-Pec School District and Michaela Flores of the Moving Ahead Program in Columbia represent the very best of what Missouri's afterschool community has to offer.

As Bradley Lademann, Associate Director of Quality at the Missouri AfterSchool Network and NAA board member, put it:
