Kiwanis Club of Columbia-Boonslick

Kiwanis Club of Columbia-Boonslick Boonslick Kiwanis Club meets every Wednesday morning at 7:00 at the Grindstone HyVee in Columbia, Missouri. Every meeting includes a speaker.

Join us for breakfast to learn about all the great thkngs we are doing! Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization “dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time”. We are focused on improving lives through fellowship in service. Boonslick Kiwanis Club is one of five Kiwanis clubs in Columbia, MO. Organized in 1966, Boonslick is one of the two breakfast clubs. We meet every

Wednesday morning from 7:00 am to 8:00 am in the at the HyVee on Grindstone in the club room upstairs. Our group of more than 45 members likes to have fun and informative meetings. Presentations are varied but always educational. Our club participates in various fund-raising activities in order to provide financial help to needy groups in our community. Some of these activities include a Pancake breakfast, an annual 8K run and a dinner play. We are always looking for new ideas. Kiwanis International joined forces with UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. We reached our club goal in 2014 and are proud to be a model club. We are first and foremost a service organization and this is where Kiwanis really shines. We like to volunteer our time to help others. Some of the service projects that we have participated in include working at Lee Elementary school, helping to refurbish the Boys and Girls Club, Clean up Columbia, the Community Nursery School, Rainbow House and helping to clean up the Kiwanis Park to name a few. We also work with Rock Bridge students through Key Club, and the Aktion Club for adults with disabilities. If you want to make a difference in our community, please consider joining us on Wednesday mornings.

Today our guest speaker was Michelle Casey Campaign Manager for CMHS. Michelle shared that CMHS has most of the money for the new Humane society and will start building once they have everything lined up . The old facility is on it's last legs and with over 80 kittens this time of year they are in disparate need of a new facility. The need for foster care is greatly needed .They take in all animals and even took in an Otter this past week. They give medical help to persons who can afford to go to a vet and provide food for pets. Another program I was interested is take a pet for a day or afternoon! For more information contact them at cmhspets.org.

Our guest speaker this week was Enola-Riann White with Upward Mobility/Literacy Campaign. Their goal is to get children early to read and enjoy reading. The earlier they start reading the better they do throughout their lives. When she is not speaking on Mobility and Literacy she is a musician now performing along with her husband at Arrow Rock Lyceum for the musical ANNIE.
