Update on Deterra Medication Project
The Support Agency is pleased to announce the continued success of its medication safety initiative serving older adults throughout the four county area of Barren, Casey, Metcalfe, and Monroe counties. Working alongside 58 community partners, we are distributing Deterra® in-home medication deactivation pouches free of charge to help older adults safely dispose of unused and expired medications.
To date, the Support Agency has completed 8 educational programs throughout the four county area, providing older adults with valuable information about medication safety, proper medication storage, and the importance of safely disposing of medications that are no longer needed. In addition, the agency has distributed Deterra medication deactivation pouches during three community events, making it easier for older adults and caregivers to receive these important medication safety resources.
"Our community partnerships are making it possible to reach more older adults than ever before," said Dr. Lynda Wilkerson, Executive Director of the Support Agency. "By working together, we are helping reduce the risks associated with unused medications while making safe disposal convenient, free, and easily accessible."
The Support Agency will restock all participating partner sites during July and August to ensure Deterra medication deactivation pouches remain readily available throughout the four county area. Volunteers from the agency will participate in community events throughout the summer, providing educational information and free Deterra pouches to older adults.
Older adults, family members, and caregivers are encouraged to visit one of the participating partner sites or stop by a community event this summer to receive a free Deterra medication deactivation pouch while supplies last.
The Support Agency sincerely thanks its 58 community partners for their commitment to improving medication safety and protecting older adults throughout Barren, Casey, Metcalfe, and Monroe counties through this important community collaboration.
