As our fiscal year comes to a close,we are pleased to share an update on our recent season and the significant milestones achieved by CYBA. This year, we provided over 25,000 hours of basketball for our community's youth during the regular season, with an additional 4,000 hours from our Skills Clinic and 3-on-3 programs.
Special appreciation to CYBA's Director, Executive Board, CYBAs Board of Directors, our Head Referee, Referees/scorekeepers, Columbia Parks and Recreation, Columbia Fieldhouse staff, Columbia Public Schools, sponsors, coaches, and the families and players who participated this year.
We would like to acknowledge CYBA’s founder, Dean Berry, as well as our Board, coaches, players, and members from years past.
Season Highlights and Operations
- Participation: We hosted 1,240 players across 131 teams in our regular season.
- We held 587 games at the Fieldhouse and 96 games at Cedar and Battle Elementary Schools. Our volunteer coaches dedicated 2,595 hours to youth development in practices and games, with over 5,000 people attending games each weekend.
- Operations were supported by the CYBA Director, CYBA Board volunteers, Peak Sport & Spine, the Head Referee, over 50 trained referees and scorekeepers, and Parks and Recreation Facility Staff. All games for grades 2–12 are now hosted at the Columbia Sports Fieldhouse.
- Utilizing reserve funds saved over seven years, we donated $100,000 to the City of Columbia for a Fieldhouse addition of four courts and a new PA system.
- We organized a food drive w/ endorsement during our jamboree that provided over 15,000 meals to the community Food Bank. Additionally, our shoe fund program provided $3,000 worth of shoes to CYBA players in need.
- In partnership with the Daydreams Foundation, we awarded 50 player scholarships. CYBA also awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to high school graduates attending college.
- We sponsored and endorsed the Elevate Como Volleyball program to support local youth athletics.
- CYBA Board has given 1000 volunteer hours this season.
Growth and Partnerships
- Our 3-on-3 program expanded from Middle school to include 4th and 5th grades, resulting in 210 registrations, 40 teams, and 400 games. We also are launching a new Summer Camp in July.
- Skills Clinic: Our collaboration with the Columbia College basketball team resulted in over 200 registrations.
- Sponsorships: We have successfully increased our number of event and team sponsors.
Awards and Recognition
- Sportsmanship: We awarded $500 in gift certificates to players and coaches demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship.
- Merit: We celebrated our founders, Dean and Lori Berry, and were honored as Dean Berry accepted a Merit Award on behalf of CYBA.
- Community Choice: CYBA was named the Platinum Winner for Youth Sports and Recreation in the Columbia Community Votes 2025.
