AVP SC - Alternatives to Violence Project South Carolina The Alternatives to Violence Project / USA
Conflict is part of daily life…
…but hate and violence do not have to be.

Our Mission

To empower people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, community building, cooperation, and trust. Founded in and developed from the real life experiences of prisoners and others, and building on a spiritual base, AVP encourages every person’s innate power to positively transform themselves and the world. AVP/USA is an association of community based groups an

d prison based groups offering experiential workshops in conflict resolution, responses to violence, creative conflict management, and personal growth. The national organization provides support for the work of these local groups. Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) helps us explore the power we all have to change hostility and destructiveness into cooperation, community, and justice. In an environment of respect and trust, build self-esteem, connect deeply with others, have fun, and practice communication and creative conflict resolution to transform yourself and your community. AVP is dedicated to reducing the level of violence in our society. Our goal is to reduce the level of violence by introducing people to ways of resolving conflict that reduce their need to resort to violence as the solution. The Alternatives to Violence Project is designed to create successful personal interactions and transform violent situations. We’re dedicated to teaching the same non-violent skills and techniques that were used by Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thank You for an Incredible Community Gathering! 🌟

Last weekend, our AVP community came together for a truly special gathering - an opportunity to share experiences, reflect on our journey, and dream about the future of AVP.

Beyond deep conversations, we also shared plenty of laughter, joy, and celebration - honouring the achievements of the past, the friendships we've built, and the challenges we've faced. We missed our prison-based volunteers who couldn’t be with us but who are at the heart of our community.

Special thanks to the Childhood Development Initiative for hosting us and Alexandra Maria Sofroni for capturing the magic of the day! 📸✨

Here’s to many more gatherings ahead! 🌱
