Grade A Plus Incorporated has counted on University of Missouri students for years, and that connection continues to grow. We serve as a host site for students in Service Learning and Field Experience courses, and we're glad to be deepening our work with Mizzou's Office of Community Engaged Learning.

University students take on genuine community needs while developing the professional skills that follow them into a career, and the students we serve gain another encouraging adult in the room each week.

Volunteers with us work as one-on-one tutors, MathUp! tutors, enrichment leaders, youth mentors, and marketing team members. We ask for one session a week, and we'll help you land in the role that suits you.

Our community-based program envisions an environment that increases academic equity by reducing the barriers that inhibit success both in and out of school. With the support of community and college student volunteers, the program strives to motivate students to learn, to increase academic curiosity, and to boost student confidence in the practice of problem-solving. Grade A Plus Incorporated is often described as a tutoring program, and that's a good starting point. Academic support is the core of what we do, with one-on-one and small group help in math, reading, and writing for students in 3rd through 12th grade.

What goes beyond the tutoring matters just as much. Students on-site get a snack at every session as well as a weekly hot dinner that their siblings are welcome to share. Families can request a monthly food box, and transportation support means a missing ride doesn't have to turn into a missed session. Mentoring, robotics, swim lessons, and dance give kids somewhere to build confidence outside a classroom.

That's what educational equity looks like day to day. It's less about giving every student the same resource and more about finding what stands in one particular student's way, then clearing it.

Through personalized tutoring, enrichment activities, and strong family support, students are encouraged to believe in themselves, take ownership of their learning, and discover their strengths. By addressing the whole child — academically, socially, and emotionally — we help students grow not only as learners, but as leaders.
