Just a quick hello
I have relocated to Summerville South Carolina and my goal is to resume our knitting behind bars program here
Is there anyone interested in volunteering in Summerville?
PM me. Below are two knitting projects I’ve recently created .

Call for volunteers. I am establishing a knitting group in a recovery house in Baltimore City and need a volunteer or two to help. The program will be in the daytime once a week, day and time to be decided .
All participants will be fully vaccinated and tested weekly.
Also putting out a request for number 8 16 inch circular needles and number 7 or 8 double points. We will be using I Love This Yarn acrylic because of price point and yardage so any donation of this yarn only will be appreciated .

This proposed group is a continuation of the prison based Knitting Behind Bars program .

Let me know if you’re interested. Lynn

Some newly finished hats. Our knitters are feeling more and more confident and proud of these newly learned skills. Seeing these hats and knowing they are being donated to a community that may have been harmed by their actions makes our program feel valuable. Quite possibly this is the first time many of these knitters have ever really thought about others in need. Being able to give back, even on such a small level, makes it all worthwhile. We estimate that we spend almost 100 hours each year with each of our 3 groups. It's amazing how many hats we are able to send into the community.

Wow. Its a bit overwhelming. The podcast has received so many nice comments.

If anyone really is interested in lending a helping hand, we do need #8 16 8nch circular needles, #8 double point needle sets and pom pom makers. If there are any to donate and even a few would be appreciated send them to Knitting Behind Bars, 12110 blue flag way, Columbia, md 21044.

When our inmate knitters are released we send a knitting kit to those motivated knitters and those sent eat into our existing supplies.

Thanks.

Wow! Aren't these great?? These hats were made by our knitters from the Monday Night group This is a new group and has just recently reached its full size of 25 inmate knitters every Monday night. Kudos to our two faithful volunteers for establishing and building this group of knitters. Of course, there is a learning curve but all members are knitters ! These hats join those finished by the other 2 groups to make more than a total of 145 hats. Pretty impressive since knitters have only 2 hours per week to complete them . Think about it, Knitting Behind Bars completed 145 hats out of the 600 to be donated by Baltimore 's Lovely Yarns Shop. These 600 hats will be given to children at Christmas time.

Hi, all, I just heard from a psychologist at Reikers who want to begin our program there. I am contacted all the time by those of you who want to start this program but cannot find a facility that is interested. So, you ladies and men in Queens, here is your opportunity.
If you are intersted in establishing a Knitting Behind Bars program in Queens, contact me and we'll get one going. You might know that I have a couple of totally wonderful and gorgeous granddaughters in Brooklyn, so of course, if we can find some volunteers, I'll be there for support.
Think about it, here is an opportunity that circumvents the biggest hurdle, finding a facility that wants this program! Below is a hat recently completed by an inmate at the women's prison in Md. We can make this happen.
