Arrow Dog Rescue-Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels

Arrow Dog Rescue-Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels Foster based, No Kill dog rescue in Columbia,TN. We rescue, rehabilitate & rehome forgotten dogs. We thought we could do it better. That is why ARROW was formed.
(206)

ARROW came about because of experiences we had with other rescues. We saw things we found to be unethical or wrong with regards to decisions about what happened with dogs who were pulled, with the adoption process, and with a sense of competition with other rescues. Just so you know who we are, this is how we do rescue:
We look for animals in need on FB in many different threads. We are also tagge

d by many others in rescue about pups that they can't take but think might be a good fit for us. We also take owner relinquishments. We contact Craiglist ads for free to good home and those selling the pups for low prices to encourage them to relinquish to rescue rather than selling to possible dog fighters looking for bait dogs. Some pups come from other states due to our connections with various shelters and volunteer rescuers in those states. Some come direct from the shelters, some stay in temp foster homes in the town where they are pulled. They are transported to us or we go drive and get them. We have to get health certificates for dogs traveling to the state prior to their travel. We bring pups in and vaccinate, deworm, bathe, and deflea them immediately and start their travel to health. Most puppies come with multiple intestinal worms and fleas. Lots of dogs coming from animal shelters come with kennel cough, pneumonia, parvo and others serious medical conditions. We have all dogs seen by the vet for an exam and to resolve any issues currently going on. Some dogs stay at our home, some go to other foster homes we supervise. We put dogs on Petfinder and share on FB. We accept applications and check their employment, landlord, personal and veterinarian references. They are allowed to come meet the dogs in foster homes after approved application. We try to make your process as simple as possible and typically review applications within 48-72 hours. We do a home visit and meet the family. Or we bring the dog to their home for the home visit at the time of adoption. Due to COVID-19, we do virtual home visits via Zoom, FB video messenger, FaceTime etc. After they are approved they pay our vet directly with their adoption donations, or pay via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or cash in person which covers their vetting, or in a lot of cases, part of the vetting costs. Then the dog goes home! We arrange transport for adopters who live more than two hours away from the foster home for a donation to the rescue. We check on all dogs several times after adoption via email, FB and phone if needed. And we are here for our adopters for the life of the pet. That is how the Slown's do rescue. We are sure there are many other ways it is done. We just happen to think this is the right way. We are located in Columbia, TN, which is about an hour south of Nashville on I-65. We are a foster based rescue so we have several other foster homes in Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, and other states who are taking care of our dogs until they are ready for their forever families. Our minimum adoption donation is $300. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, f***l tested, dewormed, and flea preventative applied prior to adoption. They are heart worm tested if 7 months or older and receive monthly heart-worm preventative if over 4 months. We have any known medical issues addressed prior to adoption and provide all veterinary records. When you adopt from us you become part of the ARROW family for life. We are here for you to contact for help with any issues with your dog. We welcome Facebook and email updates with photos and of your adopted pooch because we really do care for each and every one of them! We value our Facebook friends and community! We couldn't do it without your shares and donations! All adoption fees are for veterinary costs. We rely solely on donations to provide food, collars, leashes, p*e pads, bleach, laundry detergent, treats, dewormers, gas to go pick up dogs from animal control and other shelters, and other needed items to actually care of the dogs while they are with our rescue. Please consider sending a bag of dog food to us or ask us how to some money to continue to do what we do via Venmo -Slown or 309-212-1939, PayPal , [email protected], or 309-212-1939 Zelle 309-212-1939 , or directly to our veterinarian Veterinary Wellness Clinic of Columbia, 1412 Trotwood Ave Suite 18, Columbia, TN 38401 or checks made out to Kim or Terri Slown sent to 206 Greenview dr columbia, TN 38401. Tomorrow we pass on our rescue stuff to A Freedom Journey Rescue. Since taking the grandkids we just cannot run a rescue anymore. We of course will back all of our adopted dogs for life, will assist privately with people looking for a rescue to adopt by connecting them to other rescues, will arrange transports, and in general be available for rescue support.

When deciding what to do with all of the equipment we have accumulated in 10 years running a rescue we knew we wanted it to go to someone like Davida Sugar Hughes. Unfortunately we were unable to transport any of the donations so were limited by who was willing to pick up. We would have loved to give it all to a Memphis rescue. Instead we reached out to Crystal Parman who also knew and loved Davida in Nashville and she connected me to Mandy who she says is someone Davida would be proud of. She is coming with a trailer for crates, boxes of collars, leashes, toys, clothes, medical supplies, potty pads, shampoo and so much more.

We thought about having a yard sale but felt strongly that since most of what we had came from donations from our supporters like you that we should donate it back to another rescue that can use it.

This is a pretty sad thing in many ways. Our passion for rescue is still strong but our bodies and minds say its just time to stop. Will it be a break or for forever we haven’t figured out yet. The grands will grow and maybe need us less and then we can return but they are the focus for now.

We are forever grateful to everyone who has helped us be successful. The number of other rescues that have helped us do what we need to do is so large that we couldn’t name them all, but I will name a couple who have been instrumental in us becoming who we were. Big thanks to NovaStar Rescue, Sugar's Hood Dogs, Perfect Pooches Adoption Agency, street rescuer Gina Damian, animal control officer Amy Ragusa, Friends of Montgomery County Animal Control. A big thanks to Memphis Animal Services for showing me the horrors of a poorly run animal control and for teaching me how to fight for the underdog, to Loving Paws Adoption Center (Pulaski County Humane Society) who started our passion for feral and unsocialized dogs with pregnant Josie and her daughter Jamie, and to Marsha Martin for bringing us into the Missouri rescue world. I will come back to this post and add more, its hard to think through thw tears.

We are still trying to help fundraise for our recently adopted dog’s $10,000 emergency surgery bill. The woman who adopted sweet Chester is on a fixed income, living in assisted living and that bill went on a credit card. We only raised $560 the last time we asked. Please consider making a five or $10 donation in honor of all the work that Arrow Dog Rescue-Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels has done. Were you touched by big Knox’s adventures? Enjoyed all of the Sheba, Junebug and puppies recovery and updates? Did you come to us because of Niya’s rescue? Have you adopted from us? Fostered for us? Transported for us? Please give a little for Chester to honor all of the 2300+ dogs rescued in the 9 years we have run this rescue.

Once upon a time a Facebook friend informed me her medical condition was terminal and she asked for our help rehoming her precious dogs before she passed so that she could die peacefully. She asked that they be separated because one was bullying the other a bit. Buster and Chester were quickly adopted by separate families, and we were able to send updates until my friend’s death.

Fast forward 6 years and Chester’s adopter asked to return him without much explanation in December 2025. She “just couldn’t handle the stress”. They shared that Chester has a bladder stone that had stuck in his urethra and the vet cut a hole in his p***s to let urine pass around it until it fell out. They also had an extensive dental leaving him with half of his teeth. When I pressed for more information about what she couldn’t handle the answers were vague.

One of our previous adopters was moving into assisted living and thought Chester would be perfect for her. Chester happily joined Angelika Kuehn, peacefully coexisted with her cat. Unfortunately he quickly started having accidents in the house. Multiple UTIs followed and then he was unable to urinate. It became an emergency. He had to see a specialist that could potentially have to do two different procedures: one to remove the stone from his urethra that had never come out, and to remove all of the other stones in his bladder. After almost having to have poor Chester undergo multiple separate surgeries at different Veterinarians, luckily Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialists were able to do both. Chester has a 98% chance of no recurrence and a happily ever after coming right up!

Unfortunately this life saving surgery came with a very high cost $10,820.42. (See invoice in pictures) Angelika needs our help!! She put this on a credit card and asked for help and I of course said Arrow Dog Rescue-Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels would help.

Can you help us help Angelika with this extraordinary bill? Anything would help, even $5 from 2000 of my friends would quickly almost cover the whole bill!

Update about sweet Bonnie girl, if you don’t know history, read beyond today’s update.

Bonnie’s adopters let me know that they had to euthanize her last Wednesday due to declining health of a critical nature. This dog who had been given basically a death sentence that she could die at any point did not in the end die of her heart disease. She improved dramatically in her adoptive home. She was able to get stable enough to be spayed, and to reduce the amount of heart medication she was taking. Her family is devastated. They stated simply that she was truly one of the best dogs they’ve ever met. She lived at least to be 13 years old by some estimations and as old as 15 by others. The dog with a terminal heart condition in a Mississippi shelter, literally had no hope of a happy life until we decided to take a chance on her, and her amazing family adopted her. Thank God there are people in the world that care about dogs like Bonnie. She truly was a peach of a dog. Everybody that had any experience with her talked about how she was such a happy sweet thing.

The next time you go to an animal shelter and consider adopting, please choose a dog with medical issues. A senior dog, a less adoptable dog. Dogs like Bonnie deserve happily ever after as as

PAST INFORMATION: 2017

Got a bit of bad news for our girl Bonnie. She has a grade VI heart murmur and will be placed on heart medicine for life. They may drain some fluid off of her belly before we leave to help her comfort level. She needs an Echo cardiogram next. She has an appointment at Meadowbrook Veterinary Clinic at 3pm on Wed.
well.
———————————————-
Heartbroken. We just got the initial cardiologist's report for Bonnie. She has both Mitral Valve Disease and Aortic Stenosis. She is going back for a doplar blood flow ultrasound (at no extra cost by the vet, he is waiving his fees for her case) on Monday. If the stenosis is mild, she could have a normal life span. If it is moderate or severe, she has less than a year to live.

———————————————————
Bonnie arrived from a Mississippi shelter where she was not going to be adopted. We knew she had a heart murmur and that she had terrible mange. We also knew she had issues with her sight from likely surviving distemper. What we found out after she arrived and saw a cardiac vet was that she had subaortic stenosis, a grade VI heart murmur, was filled with fluid, and would gasp for breath. After medication Bonnie reversed aged and was energetic and happy, but could die anytime of a heart attack. No one would take the risk despite everyone loving her the moment they met her. No one until her family came along and said she is the one for them. She has since been to the U of IL vet hospital several times and has had medications adjusted and her fur finally fully returned. Her mamas said that “she is the best dog ever” and we can’t help but agree. This pooch is a gem and still living happily ever after with no end in sight. Thanks to her family for stepping up to enjoy every moment this girl has!
———————————————————
Bonny came from a Mississippi shelter in 2017 where she sat for months without interest. She had terrible skin infections, was partially blind from possible early survival of distemper, and had “some kind of heart problem”. A pitbull, probably mixed with Presa Canario, already had little chance but combined with health issues was hopeless. We of course saw a diamond in the rough. We had her transported and took her to our vet. Her belly was swollen with fluid, she gasped for air waking herself from sleeping at times, we knew it could be bad news. It was bad news. She was referred to a vet who specialized in cardiac issues and after ultrasound was diagnosed with a grade VI continuous heart murmur, with leaky heart valves. She had fluid around her heart and in her belly. It was inoperable, and she would eventually die from a massive heart attack. It could happen in a week, or a month or she could live to be 15. There was no way to predict it. She was put on three medications for her heart and eye drops for her cloudy lenses and sent home. One week later we went back for follow up with a completely different dog. She jumped up on the vet, wagging her tail and bouncing like a puppy and even the vet was amazed at her transformation. But then it was time to find her a home. No one wanted to take a chance on a dog that could die anytime. And certainly not a pit/presa mix. But she was well loved in foster care. She adored children, got among great with all other dogs and cats. She was perfect. We went to a couples home with one dog who went a little crazy about their cat and they said no way. They told us about their previous dog who had medical issues and how they liked helping dogs with those issues because they had the financial resources to do so. We perked up and said, “what about Bonny?”. They asked to meet her and Terri left the house and drove quickly to pick her up. She walked in like it was her home, met the kitty without incident and they said she is home. That was 3 years ago and she has been transformed by the love of her family. She is only on two heart medications now, and her eyes were seen by a specialist who diagnosed a condition where her lens were detaching and moving around and causing abrasions on the inside of her corneas. Eye drops shrank her pupils so that the lens stay attached and the cloudiness went away. She could see perfectly. She has since developed glaucoma and is blind in one eye, and partially blind in the other. Her family’s vet thought she needed a puppy friend so the family got her one. Now they are best friends and her life is full. We are forever indebted to Bonny’s family for helping us fulfill our promise of finding this forgotten dog a forever family.

They sent an update today with the first picture and said she is the most loving happy dog they have ever owned, and thanked us for blessing them with her. ❤️❤️

Tonight dogs will die like this dog. They will suffer, hypothermia is not a pleasant death. They will get frostbite on their nose, ears and feet.

They won’t be a stray. They will be an owned dog. One with a family. Maybe even kids. They will wake to their dog frozen on their porch.

All because they believe the lie that dogs are fine in the cold. We aren’t talking about Huskies and Great Pyrenees. We are talking about almost every other breed or mutt alive. Please, bring them inside. Inside the garage at least.

Please bring your dogs inside! Even in the shade the temperatures with humidity are dangerous to all living creatures. Over the weekend a dog died on a balcony in Nashville of heat stroke, don’t make your friend suffer!

If you see a dog out today on a tether, call the Sheriff or Animal Control for a welfare check. In a car? Call 911!

Well, I cannot advocate. You break any laws, some of us would go ahead and break windows, climb, fences, and bring water to dogs in yards that don’t have any. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

FYI ~ Take heat precautious today 🥵☀️ ~ Boppy ♥️

Sometimes what is morally right is different than what is legal. Personally I will take the ticket or arrest to bash your window in to save your dog from the heat. And have no doubts my friends and followers would have bail money before even making it to a cell.
