Doing good feels good. 🥳 Last week, Veterans United Home Loans employees volunteered at First Chance for Children to repair and install playground equipment, organize donated supplies, deep clean shared spaces and improve landscaping to help create a safer, cooler, cleaner and more welcoming environment for young children, families and staff. 💪

This effort was part of our 15th anniversary campaign where we are getting out and about in the communities we call home to give organizations and individuals the love and support they deserve.

Let the good go on!

15 years. 1,500 volunteers. Together, we make an impact.

Yesterday, community members lined the streets of Columbia, Mo. for a Memorial Day tradition that began with a mother’s mission to honor the fallen.

Sherry Wyatt is a Gold Star Mother whose son, U.S. Army Spc. Sterling Wyatt, was killed in Afghanistan in 2012. Her heart for this parade is rooted in love, loss and the deep desire to make sure the meaning of Memorial Day is never forgotten.

For the past two years, Veterans United Foundation has donated funds to support Sherry’s effort to bring back this Memorial Day tradition after a nearly five-year hiatus that began in 2019. We’re honored to be a small part of this community event that honors the men and women who gave everything for the freedoms we hold dear.

Huge thank you too to for capturing and sharing Sherry's story with us!

Veterans United Home Loans employees came together 15 years ago because they wanted to do more. More for their communities. More for their fellow employees who may be experiencing a difficult time. And more for the Veterans they served. Fifteen years ago, the Veterans United Foundation was created.

And this week proved that Veterans United employees are still tackling that same mission with just as much determination and heart as ever.

Yesterday, we wrapped up two large projects at Patriot Place and Welcome Home.

Across both projects, 135 Veterans United employees gave their time to serve local Veterans.

At Welcome Home, a local shelter serving Veterans experiencing homelessness, employees transformed the conference room into a warmer, more inviting place to gather. They also brought new life to the garden areas, creating uplifting outdoor spaces for Veterans, staff and visitors.

At Patriot Place, a housing development for formerly homeless and at-risk Veterans, volunteers delivered and assembled new beds, couches and patio sets for the apartments many Veterans call home.

"I slept so good last night," said Mary Moncrief, a Veteran resident of Patriot Place. "Please make sure the employees and volunteers know how grateful we are."

For Veterans United employees, it was a reminder of that mission that started 15 years ago: showing up for Veterans in ways they can feel.

“While the 15-year projects are specific to some things we’re doing this year, this is the kind of stuff that we’re doing every year,” said Erik Morse, director of people development at Veterans United Home Loans and board president for the Veterans United Foundation.

“It’s a big part of our culture at Veterans United Home Loans, not only to contribute financially to the foundation to enhance lives, but also for us to go out and serve the communities in which we live,” he said.

The Good Goes On. Stay tuned for more.

From Kayla Keller, Jefferson City Director of the The HALO Foundation:

“Veterans United Foundation has been a life-changing organization for HALO.

Here in Jefferson City, we’re currently housing 20 young women and three little people who are their babies. At HALO, we help youth who are in a difficult situation. We provide housing to homeless and at-risk youth.

When we first meet kids, they come to us in complete crisis mode. If they have to call us, it’s their worst day. It means they’ve run out of people who are saying yes to them. So we have to first help them feel safe. And then after that we can start helping them start thinking about higher-level things.

We help them and support them with education, financial goals. We help them get back on their feet and save money. We just try to be of help to kids that are without the foundation of a family because we believe that every child deserves that foundation of a family.

Having these outdoor spaces has really exponentially increased ways that we can better serve our kids. It’s really opened up the opportunity that we can sit alongside a kid and play Jenga, or we can sit on a swing and have a conversation. It’s really made it more attainable for our young moms to have meaningful ways that they can play with their toddlers and get down on a comfortable space outside where they can connect better with their children.

We’re going to have some incredible movie nights. Our kids love movie nights. And we have a chalkboard wall for our littles to be entertained while moms are having meaningful conversations.

We have such an incredible space outside that we get to use, but it wasn’t used to its best potential because there wasn’t shade, there wasn’t comfort, and now all of we have all of those things thanks to Veterans United employees.

We are truly grateful."

Veterans United Foundation’s 15th Anniversary campaign, The Good Goes On, continued at HALO in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Veterans United Foundation partnered with The HALO Foundation to help refresh its outdoor space for youth experiencing homelessness. With funding from Veterans United Foundation and hands-on support from Veterans United volunteers, the space now offers more shade, comfort and room for connection.

For the young women, young moms and children HALO serves, that means a safer place to play, talk, watch movies, spend time outside and build the kind of everyday memories every kid deserves.

HALO provides housing, education support, life skills, community connections and a foundation of family for youth who need safety, stability and someone in their corner. Fifteen years in, Veterans United Foundation is honored to support organizations like HALO — because when people choose to give, serve and show up, The Good Goes On.

Check out this group of awesome volunteers! Veterans United employees wrapped up work at Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbia MO today. For the past two days, they have been updating and furnishing a teen space to create a more engaging, comfortable, and functional area for learning, connection, and Club activities.

"These kids are at an age where their parents could choose for them to just go home after school,” said Veterans United Foundation Coordinator Molly Froidl. “So in order to be here they have to really want to be here. We want the spaces to be inviting, for them to enjoy their time here and to have this great opportunity.”

Thank you to all the employees who are getting out to do the good stuff to make a lasting impact for our neighbors and community!

The Good Goes On. 15 years of VUF. This is how we continue to make a difference.

Veterans United Home Loans employees rolled up their sleeves and spent three days volunteering at KVC Missouri last week as part of our 15-year celebration!

At KVC's Bearfield campus, volunteers spent time creating welcoming and functional recreation spaces and assembled tricycles so kids in residential treatment have a safe space to be outdoors, play, connect with others and experience moments of peace and tranquility.

At KVC Academy on Vandiver, VU employees renovated the therapeutic day school's school library, nursery, toddler and teen spaces to make them more functional for staff and family visits.

It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes care that can make a hard day feel a little more manageable — for kids, families and the people walking alongside them.

Fifteen years in, we’re grateful for every opportunity to show up for our community.

Stay tuned for more... 🥳💪

The Good Goes On! This week we teamed up with our friends at Tryps Childrens Theatre to help restock and organize this space that serves hundreds of area kids every year.

Veterans United employees got to work on their costume and storage areas to do the work that would otherwise take staff weeks to complete in addition to their regular programming duties.

Theater Reaching Young People & Schools (TRYPS Children's Theater) is a nonprofit, year-round children's theater company whose mission is to teach, reach, and inspire through the magic of theater.

We are so thankful to have in our community and to all the VU employees who are showing up to help!

Be on the lookout for more ways we are celebrating our 15th anniversary of the Veterans United Foundation! 15 years, 1500 volunteers out in all of the communities we serve, $1.5 million. Stay tuned.

Veterans United Home Loans employees, through their giving to the Foundation, donated $300,000 to the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment in 2023. Employee funds helped create an inclusive cafe where individuals with disabilities will work and receive on-the-job training.

We were honored to be part of the open house celebration today. This building will serve so many in the community and surrounding areas.

The Thompson Center makes a difference in the lives of people affected by autism and neurodevelopmental disorders and is a national leader in diagnosing, researching, and treating individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

For 15 years, Veterans United Foundation has helped turn generosity into action and the good is still growing. 🌱

As part of our 15th anniversary campaign, Veterans United Home Loans employees teamed up with Center for Urban Agriculture to add stepping stones throughout the gardens and food forest, so kids can explore more freely and safely connect with nature during field trips.

From improving garden and farm spaces to organizing tools and materials, VU volunteers helped strengthen the spaces that make fresh, healthy food more accessible right here in our community.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, and dug in. Pun totally intended. :)
