Jewish Federation of Howard County and its Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) deplore the violent attack and senseless loss of life at Islamic Center of San Diego, which is being investigated as a hate crime.

Such violence directed at innocent civilians at a place of worship and school is unacceptable and abrogates common decency and the moral order of our society. It should never happen.

As the Jewish community of Howard County and as part of the greater Jewish community of the United States, we condemn such violence in the strongest terms and stand with our fellow Americans of the Muslim faith, and all faiths, against such crimes perpetrated at those of any faith.

Our hearts are filled with sorrow, and our prayers are with the victims of this crime and their families, the Muslim community of San Diego, and with the broader American Muslim community. All people and spaces of faith and community should never be targets. People of all faiths must stand together against hate, free to gather and worship without fear.

Jewish Federation of Howard County and its Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) condemn the deeply offensive and racist claims made by Delegates Brian Chisholm (R-Anne Arundel) and Mark Fisher (R-Calvert) accusing Delegate Chao Wu (D-Howard and Montgomery) of being a spy for China.

Delegate Wu has faithfully served the residents of Howard County with conviction and integrity since 2018 on Howard County Board of Education and with the House of Delegates since 2023. He has been an ally and friend to the Jewish community and many others.

All rhetoric and outlandish claims that demean, marginalize, or question the integrity and legitimacy of an elected official based on ancestry, ethnicity, gender, identity, race, or religion are always unacceptable and contrary to our values. They debase public discourse, polarize the political landscape and civil society, and undermine the dignity and respect that are the right of every American.

Are you going to be at Battle of the Books tonight? Celebrate Shabbat with us! Join Jewish Federation of Howard County during the break to light candles, enjoy some challah and grape juice and mingle with other Jewish families!

When facing the stage, we will be on the left hand side on the 2nd floor. Go up the stairs on the left hand side of the stage and we will be easy to spot!
