“This could be a wonderful place for Matt’s ashes to rest, and where people could go and make a kind of pilgrimage. All of us human beings need special places to go and remember important things, and I think this could become a destination for LGBTQ people who have known violence in their own lives, which keeps being an issue, despite all the gains we’ve made.”

The 21-year-old gay University of Wyoming student was beaten, tortured and left to die 20 years ago. For years, his parents have been afraid to bury him out of concern the site would draw anti-gay protests. The National Cathedral will inter Shepard's remains in its crypt on Oct. 26.

Exciting news from - the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act, or MONA, is scheduled for a committee hearing in the House TODAY at 4 p.m. MONA is proposed legislation that would add s*xual orientation and gender identity as protected groups under the existing Missouri Human Rights Statute. MU Lambda Legal Society stands with and supports transgender students in Missouri. Today, the Missouri Senate Education Committee held a hearing for Senate Bill 98, a bill that targets transgender students in K-12 schools. The bill would ban transgender students from using the restroom that matches their gender.

We urge you to call your Missouri state senator and let them know that hate and discrimination aren't welcome in our state.
