Medical Shipments to Niger – Biggest Bargain for Your Buck

Want the biggest bang for your charitable buck? KAMRA (Kirker African Medical Relief Association) works to aggregate small donations ($25 to $1000) to leverage large donations (hundreds of thousands of dollars) from foundations and individuals to send high-value shipments of medicines to Niger, which, according to the UNDP Human Development Index, is ranked 189 out of the 189 countries ranked. A new shipment of $21 million worth of MAP International medicines left Brunswick, Georgia on March 14, 2019 and is scheduled to arrive in Niamey at the beginning of May. Each donation of $100 to KAMRA pays for the in-country distribution of $280,000 worth of medicines to hospitals in Niger. There is simply no other way to do so much good for so little money.

The Kirker African Medical Relief Association (KAMRA) needs to raise $3,000 to ensure internal transportation in Niger, West Africa of medicines donated by MAP International. The shipment is worth $14 Million, and made up antibiotics, vitamins, cold medicines, anti-hypertensive medicines, and various supplies, which will be delivered in southeastern Niger to provide health care to Internally Displaced Nigeriens, Nigerian Refugees, as well as patients at the National Hospials of Niamey and Zinder.

Thanks to contributions from International Relief Teams , and The Reed Family Foundation the shipment has made it to Niamey (pictures below). KAMRA now needs to come up with $3,000 for internal transportation to deliver the medicines to the designated health institutions throughout the country.

Deadly attacks carried out in northeastern Nigeria by Islamic extremists known as the Boko Haram have created an urgent humanitarian crisis in eastern Niger. Since 2013, more than 115,000 refugees have fled from Nigeria seeking shelter in Niger. More than 10,000 arrived in Niger between Nov. 24 and Nov. 26, 2014. The need for medicines is desperate and has been exacerbated by an outbreak of cholera among the refugees and the local population. A MAP International container of medicines and supplies worth U.S. $1,600,000, including over U.S. $1,000,000 in antibiotics, sponsored by International Relief Teams (IRT), is being shipped to eastern Niger, but KAMRA has to raise $10,000 in transport costs. To do this, the Kirker African Medical Relief Association (KAMRA) is launching the “Medicines for the Most in Need” campaign. A $10 contribution will deliver over $1,000 in antibiotics and $600 in other medicines and supplies.
