Speak Up, Be Heard

Speak Up, Be Heard Speak Up, Be Heard is a program through Columbia Missouri's Parks and Recreation encouraging teens to express themselves through writing.

We will be raising a group of young journalists, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable experiences as they tell their stories through print, audio, video, photography and everything else the internet allows. The youth involved will have the opportunity to write about the issues that are most important to them and tell the stories that they see around them, including (but not limited to) tee

n/youth issues, poverty and other national issues as seen through the eyes of young people, cultural reviews (fashion/modeling, music, movies, etc), fun places to go/things to do... The list goes on and on. We are looking for students interested in being the 'talk of the town' with their stories. We are also looking for parents and other members of the community to help sponsor and support our website.

TODAY we are getting a tour of the Columbia Police Department and interviewing them about their jobs in Columbia. Be at the Armory before 4:15 - we will leave at about 4:25. Hope to see you there!

The Speak UP, Be Heard group will NOT be meeting at the Armory today. We will meet next Tuesday (Aug 4) instead. We will be interviewing the Police Department on Tuesday at 4:30. I look forward to seeing everyone then!!!

The Speak Up Be Heard group will be meeting NEXT TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, to go to the Police Department for a tour and interview. Be at the Armory by 4:15, we will be leaving at 4:25 to go to Columbia's Police Department. Tell everyone you see in the Journalism group, so we make sure everyone knows!

Today, July 23, the Speak Up Be Heard Journalism group is going to be planning the addition of digital video capabilities!!! Our friends at Columbia Access Television will be teaching/helping us to prepare, produce and perform on television! We will keep you posted on how you can try to keep up with us!!!

Tomorrow, July 16th we will be staying at the Armory, and putting together the stories we have gathered thus far! If you're ready to talk about getting the next issue published and all the stories written come join us at the Armory and have some fun and food with us!
