Widows of Opportunity™, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Columbia, SC, was started in 2011 by Founder and President, Miss Kimberly Richardson. Her mission was to provide consistent support to widows that she did not receive after she lost her husband in 2003 in an auto accident. She started with a group of four widows as a part of a monthly support group that she hosted at her church

. Miss Richardson continued this effort consistently as she reached out to bring in other widows to her organization. She used word-of-mouth, technology tools, and social media to bring awareness to the organization and to promote her efforts to the public. She posts motivational messages to the public on the Widows of Opportunity™ page that has attracted hundreds of followers across the globe. In 2013, Richardson became a motivational speaker, and participated in various conferences and speaking engagements to talk about her experiences and to promote her organization. As of today, the network of four widows that was started in Columbia has expanded to include over 100 widows across the country, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Texas and abroad, including Africa and Australia. This Father’s Day, Widows of Opportunity is honored to partner with Ronald McDonald House to celebrate and encourage the fathers staying there while supporting their children and families.

I had the privilege of helping put together the Father's Day gift bags alongside the Ronald McDonald House team. As part of my contribution, I included a journal for each father and personally wrote a unique handwritten message inside every journal. My hope is to offer encouragement, strength, and a reminder that they are seen during what can be an incredibly challenging season.

Sometimes the most meaningful gifts are not just what’s placed in a bag, but the reminder that someone took the time to think about you and speak life into your situation.

I had the privilege of serving as a guest speaker on grief, loss, and understanding secondary losses. This was the first time this community had hosted a presentation on these topics, and the response was incredible. The session was so interactive that we didn't even make it through the entire lesson because residents had so many thoughtful questions, comments, and personal insights to share.

It was a powerful conversation that helped residents better understand secondary losses, learn more about themselves, and connect with one another through shared experiences. I am grateful for the opportunity to bring awareness to such an important topic.

July is Bereaved Parents Month—a time to honor and hold space for parents who have experienced the loss of a child, at any age, and at any point in time.

I’m honored to have been invited by Thompson Funeral Home to speak at their Bereaved Parents Gathering. This is a sacred space for remembrance, connection, and support for those walking through unimaginable grief.

If you know someone who has lost a child—recently or many years ago—please share this with them. No one should have to carry that kind of loss alone.

You are welcome to join us or reach out to me directly for more information. I’m here to help connect you to details and make sure you feel supported coming into the space.

We will remember. We will honor. We will hold space together.

Today would have been 28 years of marriage. Even though you’ve been gone for 22 years, some love never leaves and some dates never stop mattering.

Rest in peace, Robert. You are still missed, still loved, and still carried in my heart . ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day to the women carrying both love and loss today.

To the widows raising children while grieving a husband…
To the mothers missing their own mothers…
To the women showing up with strength, they never asked to have…

I see you.

Some holidays feel heavy because they remind us of who should still be here. But even in the grief, there is still love. Deep love. The kind that never leaves.

Today, I honor the mothers who keep going while carrying memories, heartbreak, responsibility, and grace all at once.

Be gentle with yourself today. Missing someone and still finding moments of gratitude can exist together.

Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍

With Mother’s Day approaching, I know this season can be especially difficult for those who have lost their mothers, as well as mothers grieving the loss of a child. I have a few clients who have lost their children, and I decided to surprise them with an early Mother’s Day gift...just a small gesture to remind them they are being thought of and cared for during what can be a very hard day.

Happy heavenly birthday, Robert. Thinking of you today. 🤍

Today was something special. At the beginning of the month, I reached out to Lighthouse Cafe and shared Mr. Allan’s story. They were moved and agreed to display his artwork in the café.

Today, on his birthday, his family brought him in without telling him what was waiting.

When he walked in, he was confused at first. Then I said, “Mr. Allan, look at the wall.” And there it was—his art, beautifully displayed.

The reaction said everything. Shock. Emotion. Gratitude. His family stood there witnessing a moment they’ll never forget.

Through loss, Mr. Allan has turned his grief into art—and today, that gift was honored in the most meaningful way.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Allan. Your story matters. Your art matters.
