Need help with changing your Medicare Advantage plan? Check out this great information from our Missouri SHIP program shared by SHIP TA Center.

Time is running out to make important changes to your 2026 Medicare Advantage coverage. If you are unhappy with the Medicare Advantage (MA) plan you selected during the Fall Open Enrollment, there are two distinct, time-sensitive opportunities to change your coverage, both of which are expiring soon!

1. Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period ends March 31st
2. Temporary SEP for incorrect Plan Finder data: 3-month window

Remember, you don't have to stay with a Medicare Advantage plan; both periods allow you to switch to Original Medicare (with or without a stand-alone Part D plan).

Your local SHIP provides free, highly trained, one-on-one, unbiased Medicare assistance. There are 54 SHIPs. Visit www.shiphelp.org/ships to contact your SHIP!

Are you doing all you can for your health? See this Missouri State Health Insurance Assistance Program post for another Wellness and Prevention topic.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month! Colorectal cancer is much easier to treat if you catch it early. Your Medicare Prevention and Wellness benefit can help!

Medicare Prevention and Wellness benefit covers colonoscopies every two years if you are at high risk for colorectal cancer. If you are not high risk, Medicare covers the test once every ten years, or four years after you have a sigmoidoscopy.

Don’t want a colonoscopy? Colonoscopies are the most accurate way to check for colorectal cancer, but Medicare also covers several alternatives like a blood test or f***l test. Talk to your doctor about what is right for you!

Colorectal cancer screening is free to you under Original Medicare. If your doctor takes a polyp or tissue sample, you may pay 20% of your doctor’s services and a copay for hospital services. Your Part B deductible will not apply.

If you have a Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan, contact Missouri SHIP at 1-800-390-3330 for more information about how your plan covers this benefit!
