The questions anglers ask on the water often lead to the most important research.

The Roaming Redfish Project is helping uncover where South Carolina’s redfish travel, how they use our coastal waters, and why that information matters for the future of the fishery.

Watch the story.

🇺🇸 9th Annual CCA Freedom River Run 🇺🇸

The CCA Freedom River Run isn’t just another day on the river.
Every hand played helps support habitat restoration, fisheries science, angler advocacy, and conservation projects right here in South Carolina.

Join us on June 27th for a day of boating, friends, music, raffles, and fun on the May River—all while helping protect the future of our fisheries.
Because the best days on the water tomorrow depend on the work we do today.

Life is better on the water.

South Carolina anglers, boaters, and coastal families have known that for generations.

At CCA South Carolina, we’re committed to making that lifestyle even better through hands-on habitat enhancement, fisheries research, and conservation projects that directly benefit anglers and boaters.

From creating living shorelines and building oyster reefs to deploying artificial reefs and advancing marine research through projects like the Roaming Redfish Project, we’re leading efforts to enhance the resources that make South Carolina’s coast one of the best places in the country to fish and boat.

This National Fishing & Boating Week, we’re celebrating the waters that bring us together and the coastal lifestyle that makes South Carolina home.

🚨 Change for South Carolina’s red drum! 🚨

S. 961 has officially passed — strengthening conservation for red drum by adjusting size and creel limits to help rebuild this iconic fishery for future generations.

“Given the latest state and regional stock assessments, this is a responsible, proactive adjustment for red drum management in the Palmetto State,” said Scott Whitaker, CCA SC executive director. “Science‑based conservation wins when anglers, fisheries managers, and lawmakers work together.”

CCA South Carolina is proud to be a part of this collaborative effort and will continue advocating for healthy, sustainable fisheries across the state and recreational anglers’ access to them.

CCA, ASA intervene in South Atlantic red snapper lawsuit.

“These pilot programs are about creating an improved recreational data collection and management framework for recreational fisheries while maintaining strong conservation standards,”
said CCA President Pat Murray.

“Recreational anglers have waited years for management that reflects the stock’s rebuilt status and current abundance trends. The states are stepping up with more responsive management and better data collection, and we believe that effort deserves strong support.”
