Looking forward to seeing fellow nonprofits and community partners at Together SC’s upcoming annual Summit (3/9-3/11 in Greenville)! Be sure to register for our disaster panel to learn how partnerships in blue skies lead to activation in gray skies. ⬇️

Building Back Together:Public/Private Partnerships

Join Ran Reinhard and Mary Louise Resch from the SC Office of Resilience, Erin Johnson from Central Carolina Community Foundation, and Nancy Lee from Habitat for Humanity South Carolina at the 2026 Nonprofit Summit in Greenville, SC March 9-11.

This session will focus on the importance of government, funding, and non-profit organization partnerships, focusing on lessons learned from Hurricane Helene response and recovery. The session will also focus on why building these relationships during 'blue sky' periods enhances the successes of community organizations during periods of disaster and the critical role played by non-profit organizations during these events.

Moments of humanity are what our communities forward.

At the darkest of times, the simple act of coming together, rolling up our sleeves, and showing up for one another can change lives, both for those facing adversity and for the neighbors who remind them, “you’re not in this alone.”

To date, the Habitat for Humanity South Carolina network has repaired 47 homes following Hurricane Helene. With another 17 homes in progress and 39 under assessment, our teams are steadily working toward our (initial!) goal of helping 150 homeowners recover.

This work is only possible because of generous donors and committed partners. The American Red Cross has been by our side since day one, and we are grateful to work alongside them and our local affiliates, including Aiken County Habitat for Humanity.

Read more about this work and Ms. Linda's journey in the article below.

Linda Oliphant lives in Edgefield, South Carolina, and never imagined she would face a major hurricane tearing through her town.

1 in 8 South Carolina households spend more than half of their income on housing. At this year's annual Day at the Dome, Habitat for Humanity spoke with legislators about the state of affordable homeownership across the Palmetto state.

Research shows numerous outcomes of owning a home, such as greater economic stability, better health, and access to quality education. In 2024, Habitat for Humanity built, repaired, and rehabilitated 297 homes across South Carolina. Thank you to all the board members, volunteers, and staff who advocated for affordable homeownership solutions during Day at the Dome!

As our Habitat for Humanity network and communities continue to assess the damage from Hurricane Helene, you’re invited to join us in prayer and action. While the devastation feels unbelievable in parts of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, we recognize that areas of South Carolina sustained significant damage and are experiencing hardships as well. Earlier today, South Carolina Emergency Management Division noted over 4,600 homes had been damaged by the storm, and the number continues to increase.

Across the state, Habitat affiliates and communities are navigating fallen trees and limbs, power outages, flooding, ReStore/office damage, and destroyed homes. We are also coordinating with impacted states to discuss needs, share resources, and provide mutual support. Habitat will be a vital collaborative partner in long-term recovery and rebuilding.

You are invited to make a financial contribution to support Habitat for Humanity affiliates and communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.
