📢 Governmental Relations Update: Bipartisan Effort to Protect Special Education Oversight Moves Forward

There is new momentum in Congress to keep federal special education programs within the U.S. Department of Education.

The Senate HELP Committee has already advanced S. 5046, bipartisan legislation that would prohibit the transfer of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and other key education offices to other federal agencies.

Now, bipartisan companion legislation—H.R. 10232—has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

CEC and CASE support these efforts to keep special education programs within the Department of Education and under the leadership of education experts.

📣 Now is the time to make your voice heard. CEC makes it easy to contact your members of Congress and advocate for protecting federal special education leadership.

Special education students are 15% of all students, and they are general education students first. Separating special education from the Department of Education undermines inclusion and fractures our education system.
