Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

SCPhA joins communities across South Carolina and around the world in remembering those lost to overdose, supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder, and reaffirming that overdose deaths are preventable.

Pharmacists and pharmacy teams are trusted, accessible partners in overdose prevention. We encourage South Carolinians to:

-Keep naloxone on hand and know how to use it.
-Talk openly and without stigma about substance use and recovery.
-Store medications securely, away from children, visitors, and anyone for whom they are not prescribed.
-Safely dispose of unused or expired medications through a take-back program, drop box, or other approved disposal option.
-Ask your pharmacist about naloxone, overdose-risk reduction, and available local resources.

A conversation, a naloxone kit, or safe medication disposal can save a life.

SCPhA has been on the road visiting the P1 classes at the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy, the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, and the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy! 💙

We enjoyed sharing lunch, introducing students to SCPhA, and talking about ways to get connected, involved, and supported throughout pharmacy school and beyond.
