Are you interested in geology? If so, the upcoming Rock and Gem show with the Central Missouri Rock Club could be the best possible place to volunteer.

The Central Missouri Rock Club is a non-profit organization that wants to connect children and adults to the sciences, specifically geology and rocks. They could use student volunteers to help with our kids mine, hospitality, helping vendors set up, etc.

Helping at this event can also lead to a front row seat to some amazing geology displays including fossils, handmade jewelry, geodes, and other fun rock-related items. If you are even remotely interested in geology, whether it be you like to collect sparkly geodes or you are pursuing a degree in the field, this opportunity is a great way to get involved and give back while also gaining hands-on experience!

The event will take place May 6, 7, and 8th at the Knights of Columbus. Friday's house are noon to 7, Saturday's hours are 9-5, and Sunday's hours are 10-4. If you are interested and/or want more information, contact Mary Wozny for more information at [email protected]. You can also visit the club's page for more information here: https://www.facebook.com/cmrlc/

Float Your Boat is an innovative and exciting way to support The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri while having a blast with family and friends. Held every spring, Float Your Boat teams are challenged to construct boats using only cardboard and duct tape that they race across Bass Pro Shops Lake on the day of the event. This fun-filled event has become a community favorite and an important fundraiser for The Food Bank.

If you are not interested in participating, volunteers are needed! Volunteers help The Food Bank staff keep Float Your Boat running smoothly for participants and viewers—and they have the opportunity to get in on the fun, too. Volunteer opportunities include: Event assistance, T-Shirt sales, registration table help, volunteer table support, recording race results, starting line assistance, finish line assistance, and life jacket/paddle runners.

Calling all plant lovers! This coming Saturday, April 9th, from 10am to 1pm, the Missouri Prairie Foundation is hosting a plant sale with the Grow Native! initiative.

Native plants beautify landscapes and help support songbirds and other cherished wildlife. Buy native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, trees, vines, sedges, and native seed from Grow Native! professional members. Many vendors accept cash, check, or credit cards; some only cash or checks - so make sure to bring some cash to the event!

Vendors who will be present include Ozark Soul Native Plants, Gaylena’s Garden, Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Prairie Hill Farm, Forrest Keeling Nursery, SunRise Gardens, and the Missouri Native Plant Society Hawthorn Chapter.

Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own crates or boxes for bringing their purchased plants home. Volunteers will be available to load plants into vehicles for those needing assistance.
