Tiger Camp #432 - SUVCW - Columbia, MO Organized to preserve and protect the memory of the men who fought and died to preserve the Union. We are the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a volunteer, non profit, patriotic and educational organization. It was founded on Nov. 12, 1881 and was incorporated by an Act of Congress Aug. 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the Grand Army of the Republic. We are the descendants of the men who fought to save the Union. Their blood run

s in our veins. We are not about "representing" Civil War soldiers, we, as descendants and legal heirs to the G.A.R. are a direct link to these men. We honor our ancestors by keeping alive the memory of their service and sacrifice in a way that no other organization can.

Brother Floyd H. Strader

Floyd was born in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Columbia, Missouri in the fall of 1950. He attended both country and city schools and the University of Missouri. He joined the United States Navy in 1961, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1965. His service included three tours of duty in the Tonkin Gulf. Floyd worked at various jobs in Columbia and began working at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital in 1982, where he worked for about nine years. He worked for other governmental agencies for about 4 years.

Floyd had been doing genealogical research for about 40 years, and has authored volumes of work on Boone County Missouri cemeteries. He has been featured in both local newspapers for his work done on locating and indexing county cemeteries. Floyd was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Floyd passed away at the VA hospital on September 12, 2024. His services will be September 20 at Memorial funeral home. Visitation will at 12 pm to 1 pm and funeral service is from 1 - 3 pm with military honors.
