Friends of Rabbits Friends of Rabbits was founded in 1997 as an organization to educate, rescue, and advocate for the needs of domestic house rabbits.

We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in the Washington DC / Baltimore greater metropolitan area. Friends of Rabbits rescues, rehabilitates and adopts out more than 200 rabbits each year, and over 80% of all donations go directly to purchasing supplies and veterinary care for our rabbits. When you adopt from us you truly save a life, enabling our volunteers to pull another rabbit in need from local animal control facilities. Our rabbits frequently come from the top of the euthanasia list, often within hours of being put to sleep for lack of space, temperament, and physical imperfections. FoR also works with area shelters to provide rabbit care education and to take in rabbits when the shelters are overloaded.

Serenity hopped into her furever home with her new bun friend, Mikey. 🐰🐰

Do you have a bun who is looking for a friend? Fill out an application to adopt and, once approved, bring your bun to adoption day to find a friend. We will help choose a rabbit that will be a good bonding candidate and observe the bunnies during the initial meet and greet for signs of a connection. Once your bun has selected their match, the bunnies will stay with us for a Bunnymoon to strengthen their bond before they go home with you!

Most of our posts center around the rabbits in our care - for obvious reasons - but the truth is that we couldn’t do what we do without the amazing people who take care of those bunnies and keep everything running smoothly. One of the faces behind Friends of Rabbits is Kali.

If you’ve been to an adoption day recently, then you’ve seen Kali! Ask Kali about any bunny in our care, and she can give you stories, information about their personality, and approximately 50375 pictures. All of that knowledge helps her find each bunny the perfect furever home. Kali is also gifted at helping buns find a friend to bond with - a bunny bonding extraordinaire. She is passionate about educating people on proper rabbit care and spends time during adoption day to make sure that adopters leave feeling well equipped to care for their newest family member. Thank you for all that you do for our bunnies and their humans, Kali!
