Friends of Rabbits

Friends of Rabbits Friends of Rabbits was founded in 1997 as an organization to educate, rescue, and advocate for the needs of domestic house rabbits.

We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in the Washington DC / Baltimore greater metropolitan area. Friends of Rabbits rescues, rehabilitates and adopts out more than 200 rabbits each year, and over 80% of all donations go directly to purchasing supplies and veterinary care for our rabbits. When you adopt from us you truly save a life, enabling our volunteers to pull another rabbit in need fro

m local animal control facilities. Our rabbits frequently come from the top of the euthanasia list, often within hours of being put to sleep for lack of space, temperament, and physical imperfections. FoR also works with area shelters to provide rabbit care education and to take in rabbits when the shelters are overloaded.

Did you know that Friends of Rabbits has guinea pigs available for adoption? Meet Kiwi and Fletcher! Fletcher (more black) is a good boy. He is friendly and easygoing. Kiwi (more white) is a sweet and curious girl. She likes pets and enjoys treats. Both piggies are a little shy with new people but quickly come around. They are quite bonded and love each other very much. If you would like to adopt this adorable pair, please fill out an application on our website.

Meet Bell and Pimento, a bonded pair of sisters with the perfect balance of sweet and spirited personalities! Bell is the quieter sister who likes to take her time warming up to new people and situations. She’s observant and often looks to Pimento for reassurance before jumping into something new. Once she feels comfortable, her curious side shines through. Pimento is the more outgoing of the two and is usually the first to investigate what’s happening around her. While still a little cautious at first, she’s much quicker to approach people and explore new environments.

Together, these two are endlessly curious and incredibly smart. They love snacks, enrichment toys, and figuring out puzzles, especially when treats are involved! Food is definitely the way to their hearts. They also enjoy exploring their surroundings, chewing on their favorite toys, and being silly together.

Bell and Pimento would thrive in a loving and patient home that will continue helping them build confidence while giving them plenty of opportunities for play and enrichment. If you are interested in adopting them, please fill out an application online.

Dale is a silly and spunky boy. He’s also gentle and curious. He is an enthusiastic explorer but will come quickly to you once he hears the treat bag! He enjoys a variety of treats and veggies- he’s not very picky. He loves to play, run, and binky, but also has his chill moments when he loves head scratches. Dale is also very good with his litterbox. If you would like to meet Dale, please fill out an application on our website.

Step aside, Lara Croft, there’s a new explorer in town, and she’s got fur, flair, and a nose for adventure. Meet Punkin, the daring rabbit explorer who’s been hopping through the vestiges of your living room in search of cuddles, cardboard temples, and the ultimate prize: a forever home.

Her Mission Profile:
- Adventurous Spirit: Whether it’s scaling the couch or navigating pillow caverns, Punkin’s always on a quest.
- Brilliant Strategist: She’s smart, tidy, and knows where her base camp litterbox is. Bunny-proofing? You’ll need it.
- Free-Roam Essential: Like any true explorer, Punkin needs space to roam, binky, and investigate.
- Enrichment Addict: Puzzle toys, tunnels, and hideouts are her sacred relics. Boredom is her only nemesis.
- Gentle Heroine: Despite her action-packed lifestyle, she’s soft, sweet, and loves a good petting session after a long day of discovery.
- Escape Artist Extraordinaire: No gate can hold her. She’s got the agility of a jungle cat and the curiosity of a crypt raider.

Punkin seeks a home where she can roam freely, be showered with affection, and have plenty of enrichment to keep her Lara Croft instincts sharp.

Smudge did great in surgery and is recovering at the vet. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for our little Smudgie!

Smudge’s next step will be a neuter and a dental. Originally the dental was going to get done along with the eye removal but our vet decided it was in his best interest to minimize time under anesthesia.

These pictures and video were from his first night with us on Friday. We gave him a nice cozy dark space to rest while waiting for surgery. He also really loved his post pain med snuggles!

Meet our newest bunny Smudge. (Warning- the third picture shows an eye abscess) While at the shelter Smudge developed a worsening issue with his eye. When we saw his condition we knew we needed to take him in and treat the eye.

Upon arrival it was clear that little Smudge was in extreme pain so we took him to the vet right away. Smudge went on a little road trip to our friends at SEAVS where he was able to get some pain management and we set a surgery date to remove the eye.

Smudge will be going back to Stahl today and he will have surgery tomorrow.

Keep our little Smudge in your thoughts! He is the sweetest guy!
