Friends of Rabbits

Friends of Rabbits Friends of Rabbits was founded in 1997 as an organization to educate, rescue, and advocate for the needs of domestic house rabbits.

We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in the Washington DC / Baltimore greater metropolitan area. Friends of Rabbits rescues, rehabilitates and adopts out more than 200 rabbits each year, and over 80% of all donations go directly to purchasing supplies and veterinary care for our rabbits. When you adopt from us you truly save a life, enabling our volunteers to pull another rabbit in need fro

m local animal control facilities. Our rabbits frequently come from the top of the euthanasia list, often within hours of being put to sleep for lack of space, temperament, and physical imperfections. FoR also works with area shelters to provide rabbit care education and to take in rabbits when the shelters are overloaded.

Meet Hershey! Hershey was one of the many baby bunnies born last July at the rescue. He is a curious and brave little guy. He likes to play, explore, and investigate his surroundings. His foster mom says that he can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. He is a sweetie pie and will sit with you to cuddle too. One of his favorite activities in his foster home is burrowing and making blanket forts for himself! If you are interested in adopting Hershey, please fill out an application on our website.

Hefe (short for Hefeweizen), is an easygoing and docile bunny. She likes to be held and can be a bit of a couch potato. She is bonded to her mom, Bun Bun. Bun Bun (spotted bunny) is a silly and spunky girl. She loves to play and is quite curious, so she enjoys exploring.

Both bunnies love to chew- their favorites including cardboard and blankets. They like to hang out with their foster family and watch TV with them. They would make great cuddle buddies!

If you would like to meet Hefe and Bun Bun, please fill out an adoption form on our website.

Meet Anaheim and Shish*to! Anaheim (black bunny) is Shish*to’s (spotted bunny) daughter. She is a bit more on the shy side but still a huge sweetheart. She loves her mom very much. Shish*to is the outgoing one of the pair- she will approach any friendly face to say hi and to sniff out snacks. She loves attention and seeks out to be cuddled, whether it is from her daughter or from her foster mom. The two girls are partners in crime. They are always exploring and investigating together. They are also good eaters and will not turn down a treat. If you would like to adopt this lovely pair, please fill out an adoption application on our website.

Nova came to us from a research laboratory, and she is still figuring out the whole “freedom” thing. She is a big girl with big feelings, big ears, and a big personal safety bubble. She is a quirky bunny - she grunts when she is fed, probably from a mix of excitement and because she is protective of her food (aren’t we all?). She is also picky about her hay and prefers third cut timothy hay- she can tell if it is not! She is also very tidy and keeps a very clean space.

Nova gets along with cats, dogs, and most people. Her foster mom says she might actually think she is a dog. She might be a little confused on how to “bunny”, as she tries to do happy binkies but always looks silly since she does not understand what a binky looks like! Nova likes her boundaries and communicates it well, but little kids may not be able to read her cues.

Nova truly is a special girl. If you are someone who respects boundaries and believes in earning trust, Nova will blossom under your watch. In her current foster home, she loves to explore, hang with the dogs, hop up on the couch, and happily accept pets and treats. She is the type of bunny that will sometimes sit and watch TV with you, and other times lay under the couch to people-watch. She has even napped while cuddling with her foster mom!

If you are interested in adopting Nova, please fill out an application on our website.
