The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is coming August 21-22, and we're getting ready for it at Sunday's Open House August 16. Come and learn what to look for and how to do it. Then we'll practice.
Come back to the arboretum Saturday, August 22, to count with us, or count wherever you find pollinators on flowers. The city is hosting counts at 5 other locations.

Joining is easy and takes just 15 minutes. Count and then upload your findings to the project site. Get all the info at https://gsepc.org/. It's a great project for families, garden clubs, youth groups, scouts, naturalists, everyone!

Columbia Green’s Community Grants and Beat the Heat programs are teaming up to bring you something new — Trees for Campuses!

We’re taking what we do best from both programs and bringing it together to help other nonprofit organizations across Greater Columbia create cooler, greener, more beautiful campuses with up to 50 FREE native shade trees. This is not restricted to churches and schools - all nonprofits in need are welcome.

Beat the Heat Tree Application Notice

Do you have a physical address listed as Columbia, SC? Apply by July 31 for up to three free trees during the first round of Beat the Heat tree distributions.

Don’t have a Columbia address? You may still be eligible for the Beat the Heat program! Tree availability and distribution schedules vary between mid-October and the end of February, so we encourage everyone in the Midlands to apply.

The July 31 deadline simply helps us identify applicants for the first distribution round serving Columbia addresses—it is not the final deadline for the overall program. If you have a Columbia address and miss applying by July 31st, don’t worry, we won’t exclude you.

As always, tree availability will be based on our suppliers. We intend to fill all eligible applications.
