Jane Winkler is a freshman student at the University of Missouri - Columbia studying Accounting. Jane's ultimate career goal is to be an accountant at a small company that does something neat. Jane's favorite quite is: "No man is a failure who has friends" - It's a Wonderful Life.

Site Coordinator Spotlight: Jonie Welland!

What is your passion that motivates you to serve students working with a way with numbers?
"I love seeing the growth that children experience with academic interventions. It can drastically increase their abilities and motivation in such a short time period. I can see how the work we do at A Way With Words and Numbers makes a difference, especially when considering the importance of student tutor relationships. I am passionate about working with students of all abilities and thrive in positions that allow me to collaborate with others and utilize my problem-solving skills to enact positive change."

What is your ultimate career goal?
"After obtaining my Ed.S. degree in school psychology, I hope to work at an elementary and middle school! I love school psychology because I get to advocate for students’ needs and find ways to support their academic, behavioral, and emotional growth."

How have you grown from being a site coordinator so far?
"Being a Site Coordinator has affirmed my desire to work in education. It has given me valuable experience working directly with students and also performing a leadership role by helping the tutors problem solve. I feel more confident in my ability to assist teachers with supporting students’ unique educational needs."

Ellen is a junior at the University of Missouri studying biology and psychology. In the future, she wants to become a doctor/neonatologist. Her favorite quote is "If you want to give light to others, you have to glow yourself" by Thomas S. Monson.

Site Coordinator Spotlight: Maggie Mitchell

What is your passion that motivates you to serve students with AWWWN?
"My passion comes from the students we work with. Being able to be a positive force in a child’s life is so worthwhile. Last semester, we saw immense improvement in our students’ reading abilities, and it was awesome to know our program helped accomplish that."

What is your ultimate career goal?
"My ultimate career goal is to become a counseling psychologist and do therapy with children and adolescents. I also have an interest in doing research and advocacy work in the future."

How have you grown from being a site coordinator so far?
"I’ve definitely gained leadership skills as a site coordinator so far. This job requires a large amount of organization, listening, and teamwork. I feel as though the A Way With Numbers staff have helped me in growing these traits. I’ve also gained a sense of accomplishment from being able to make change in our local schools."

What is a quote that inspires you?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou. I think this quote reminds me about what’s truly important in life. I think people can change the world is by trying to make any positive change we can no matter how big or small.
