Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services would like to make community members aware that the original federal eviction moratorium expired on July 31, 2021. The CDC issued a new order temporarily halting evictions in counties with higher levels of community transmission, especially considering the rise of the highly contagious Delta variant.
It is intended to target specific areas of the country where cases are rapidly increasing, which could worsen with mass evictions. Boone County is among the counties currently covered by this order. The new emergency order is effective on Aug. 3, 2021, and will remain in effect through Oct. 3, 2021, subject to revision based on the changing public health landscape.
To obtain protection under the eviction moratorium, tenants must be eligible and complete a CDC declaration form and give it to their landlord. More information about the CDC temporary protection from eviction order is available on the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/communication/Signed-CDC-Eviction-Order.pdf. Information about the declaration form can be found on page 14 of the linked document.
Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services wants to remind residents that housing stability resources are available to help with utility, rent and mortgage payments, and legal assistance. These resources are made available through a combination of local and federal funds, including a recent investment of nearly $2 million by the City of Columbia in public assistance programs. This includes $602,000 for rent and mortgage assistance and $300,000 for the City of Columbia Utility Assistance Program.
