Pictured is the first gathering of the SC Association of Farmrs Markets Midlands Group. This group gathered at Salsarita's in Columbia this past week. There were several farmers market managers in the midlands region in attendance. The group looks forward to convening on a quarterly basis as a chance for market managers to network, discuss challenges, and new ideas for their market.

Please check out this Preliminary Tomato Pricing Data from SC Farmers Market Pricing Reporting Project, collected by Kevin Burkett, Clemson Agribusiness Associate.

These are preliminary results of a Specialty Crop Block Grant being coordinated through Clemson Extension Agribusiness. With more data, more prices and more crops to be studied. The goal is to collect market data from around the state that can inform producers, Extension / researchers, service providers, and others that may benefit from the information. Fruits and vegetables are the primary focus of the project, and this is the first-year data has been collected.

Farmers markets that are interested to participate can email [email protected] or watch a short YouTube training here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tutb1hPakfo.

Let’s take a moment and look at these incredible flyers made by the Town of Monks Corner’s, Market Manager- Susan Gilmore! She made these flyers to showcase her vendors during National Farmers Market Week! Susan also gifted each vendor with a gift to show appreciation for their hard work and highlight how important they are for their community!

This is a great way to market your products, highlight your vendors, and showcase the true impact that a farmers market can have on a community and its members!

Thank you to Susan Gilmore for curating these flyers and for sharing them with our association so that we can share them with you all!

Congratulations! If y’all are in the Monks Corner area, go check out the market!!

Fred West- SCDA Market Development Director presented, Fairfield Farmers and Artisans Market Manager- Jamie Vaine the official proclamation for National Farmers Market Week signed by Governor McMaster this Wednesday at one of the markets many events held throughout the year! This market in Fairfield hosted a “Lunch at the Market” event where seniors in the community could enjoy lunch, shop local produce, and gather with their community. It is efforts like these that show the true benefit that farmers markets bring to their communities. (Also pictured is the SC Association of Farms Markets’ president Ashley Page and Executive Director Anne Nidiffer.)
