AYRA Baseball and Softball

AYRA Baseball and Softball AYRA has provided Howard County (MD) communities a youth baseball program that is fun, competitive, educational, and safe for children 5-18 since 1968.

Community sports are a great way for kids to learn about physical fitness, teamwork, winning, losing, and sportsmanship under all circumstances. The Atholton Youth Recreation Association (AYRA) has been providing Howard County Maryland communities (Clarksville, Columbia, Fulton, Maple Lawn, Laurel, Savage, Simpsonville) a youth baseball program that is fun, competitive, educational, and safe for c

hildren aged five to eighteen years old since 1953. Our baseball program is based on carefully-balanced objectives. While our first, and most important, focus is to create a fun and enjoyable baseball experience for children, this objective is balanced with a program aimed at developing fundamental baseball skills. Our program is designed to develop those fundamental skills at an early age and then continually hone and add to those skills as our players age and play more competitive baseball.

Fielding / Throwing: players will be on the field while coaches hit them ground balls. They are evaluated on fielding form, throwing form and arm strength.

Hitting: Players will either be in the batting changes or on an open field with a coach pitching to them. They are evaluated on quality of contact, form and power.

Base Running: Players will be evaluated on speed and base running mechanics

Any cancellations or changes will be updated on our page

Please contact the coaches directly if you cannot make one of the dates.

Please arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the tryout to get warmed up and for the parents to get signed in. In addition, please register for the tryouts so we can get an idea of the number of kids attending - there is no fee for registering.

Oriole Advocates Cardboard to Leather Program will be on site this weekend, April 18th at Schooley Mill for Opening Day!

Through the C2L program, baseball and softball equipment, that would otherwise be discarded, is collected and sent to countries where there is a real love for the game, but a lack of equipment to play it. The young athletes in these countries often use pieces of cardboard for gloves, hence the name of their program.

Please bring any extra used or unused baseball or softball equipment with you to Schooley Mill. They accept such items as uniforms, gloves, cleats, bats, balls, catcher’s gear, equipment bags and even trophies - remember, the kids that are receiving this equipment literally have nothing, so as long as the donation isn’t falling apart, C2L will accept it.

Through the Oriole Advocates Cardboard to Leather® program, gently used baseball equipment is collected for communities where there is a love for the game but lack of equipment to play it.

If you are requesting to move up or down an age group you must reach out to the league commissioner and let them know of the request. Any notes left in the comment section during registration regarding this are not read until we begin making teams and at that point it is usually too late.

It is highly recommended using a lap/desktop computer when completing the registration process.

COACHES: PLEASE - sign up early and often. We need coaches. We need many of them. Every season we are left begging coaches to commit at the last minute. If you have any questions or you are on the fence, please don't hesitate to reach out. Its not as intimidating at it may seem!

We hit a wait list every year so signing up early is highly recommended.
