We are 40! What a musical celebration we had this weekend. We have a lot to be grateful for:
1. Special thanks to our friends with the Merchants of Cool for giving our concert a jazzy beginning, to Frios Gourmet Pops for the literal cool deliciousness, and to the Ridley 4H Center for the use of their pavilion.
2. Our many talented musicians now and over the years. Forty years is a long time, and probably hundreds of musicians have played with the Maury County Community Band. We are grateful for their musical contributions and spirit.
3. Abby Lane, our conductor, who fearlessly leads us through the wildest of key and tempo changes.
4. You! Our community. We in the community band are part of you, and we love playing for you.
With our country celebrating its 250th this year, and the community band celebrating its 40th, that would mean that our band has existed for 16% of the existence of the United States. The story of America, in a certain sense, could be told through the story of American music. From revolutionary beginnings to expansion, through tragedies and soaring heights, through peace and struggle, where Americans are, there is music. Not just for entertainment, but for inspiration, for comfort, for storytelling, for purpose. We are proud to humbly carry those traditions with us into the future.
See y’all in the fall for the continuation of our 40th anniversary celebration!
