Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate Dolly with us. There were kids who signed up to receive a new book every month through the Imagination Library, flowers painted to enjoy, glitter glue spread on plain wooden butterflies, and wild flower seeds taken to be sown to give a home to butterfly eggs.
Next year, we're planning a larger celebration, filling the day with stories, songs, community pride, and some laughter. (If you're thinking we need to add a Dolly Hair Contest, you're our kind of thinker.)
So mark you calendars for Saturday September 26, 2027 for our Second Annual Dolly Parton Day at the Columbia Station Library.
And yes, there will once again be free food. And Dolly's chocolate chip cookies and funnel cakes from her pancake batter.

Happy Dolly Parton Day everyone. Here in Ohio, today has been designated as Dolly Parton Day via proclamation from the governor. Here in Columbia Station, we're gathering at the Columbia Library to celebrate Dolly as the founder of the Imagination Library.

Please join us in a day filled with butterflies, wildflowers, song, and a few treats.

We hope to see you there. If the parking lot next to the library is full, you can park in the parking lot for the park and walk over. Along the way, enjoy the sunshine and the story walk along the paved path. The veteran's memorial is also accessible from the lot, to your left as you face the park, for a moment of thanks before or after the day. There is no school today for Columbia students, so if you don't have other plans, come and enjoy part of their day with us and check out a few books.

Dolly Parton Day is officially a state recognized day on September 25, 2026. Below is the proclamation, signed today September 14th, 2026, but Governor Dewine and Lt. Governor Tressel.

Come celebrate with us at the Columbia Library on Friday, September 25 to honor the founder of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

To celebrate Dolly Parton's life, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and I signed a proclamation creating Dolly Parton Day, to be observed on September 25, 2026. Dolly spread the values of kindness and generosity around the world, and her legacy will live on through the children who have benefited from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

In Ohio alone, more than one million children from all 88 counties have received a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book in the mail each month since the Imagination Library of Ohio program was established in 2019.

Parents can enroll their children from birth to age five in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio at ohioimaginationlibrary.org

As promised, here are the flyers with information on donating to the Imagination Library. One is for Lorain County, one is for the state of Ohio. For those of you joining us for Dolly Day on September 25, we will have ways to donate that day.
The Lorain County link takes you to the Community Foundation of Lorain County. Lorain County had the Lorain County Imagination Library in place before it was implemented state wide. (Lorain County est. 2015, Ohio 2019)

You all are incredible.
The Columbia Library let us know that they've been getting calls on how to donate to the Imagination Library and asked if we could post a link.

Here are two options for you. We'll have options for donating at our event on September 25th.
The first option is for the Imagination Library of Ohio. The funds are used for providing all kids under the age of 5 who have been registered with the Imagination library a book every month. Follow this link:

https://www.ohioimaginationlibrary.org/donate

The second option is for funds to go to Imagination Library books for children through the Lorain County Imagination Library. Those funds are collected by the Community Foundation of Lorain County. For more information about the program, or to donate, follow this link:
https://www.peoplewhocare.org/lcil

We are working on a flyer with a QR code for each option that we'll have on display at the Columbia Library. (It will be a few days - everyone with the Friends of the Columbia Library is a volunteer.) We will have options to donate at our event on September 25th.

If you have questions, feel free to post them here.

Dolly Parton believes if you can read, you can do anything, dream anything, and be anything. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home of Sevier County, Tennessee. Today, the program gifts over 2 million free bo...
