Come along with me, and let's love our lives :)
Around here, we're always looking for the little things that make our days better, and trying to leave people feeling a little better than we found them.

So, the Jig is done and today is much heavier. I think my first responder friends will get this....

One of the weird things about this job is the transitions between work life and home life. There's no magical decompression chamber we walk through, or ceremony preformed to bring us back from the easiest shift ever or someone's worst nightmare. We just come home and do the things that need to be done.

My brain has never been good at flipping that switch. I notice things, I fall in love with things and people, and I see symbolism everywhere. Today has been one of those numb, wandering around days after a busy shift yesterday.

So I find myself staring at the wildflowers outside and decide I'd like some for my desk.. Without thinking I grab my trauma shears sitting there, and head out the door.

As I'm cutting the flowers, I realize how odd this moment is. Those shears have a pretty grim job most days, and here we are in my field cutting wildflowers.

And I don't know... something about that struck me. Life just keeps being life.

Doing a jig one day, contemplating the dichotomy of my trauma shears life another day. 💜

Okay, so what exactly IS the Grateful Neighbor Challenge™? 💜

Because if you’re new here, you may be wondering what the heck we’re actually doing.

It’s really pretty simple.
You notice something good.😀

Maybe somebody has flowers that make you happy every single time you drive by. Maybe they have the best Christmas lights in town. Maybe their yard is gorgeous. Maybe it’s the woman at the gas station who’s always nice to you, or somebody picking up trash on the side of the road, or a house that just makes you smile for no particular reason.

Whatever it is.
You noticed it.

And instead of thinking, “Oh, that’s nice” and continuing on with your day like we usually do…

You tell them. 💜

Write it on a Grateful Neighbor card. Write it on a piece of paper. Write it on the back of something. I don’t care. 😂 Just tell them.

You can mail it like a perfectly normal person…

OR you can pull over, hop out of your car, run across somebody’s yard, leave it somewhere they’ll find it, and rush back to your car hoping nobody comes outside. 😂 (My personal favorite).

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE:

Do not put it in their mailbox! 😱
(Apparently that’s a federal crime. We are spreading gratitude here, people. We are not trying to get arrested. 😂 Ask me about that story another day.)

Then you leave.

No name. No credit. You don’t even get to know what happened when they found it.🫣

Just:

Love,
A Grateful Neighbor 💛

And honestly, that’s part of what makes it so ridiculously fun.

You throw your little grateful out into the world and off it goes.🥰

Maybe they needed it that day.
Maybe they laugh.
Maybe they keep it.
Maybe they tell somebody else.

Who knows?

But here’s the sneaky part…

The more you do this, the more YOU start looking for things to be grateful for.💜

And suddenly there are good people and beautiful yards and funny little things and reasons to smile absolutely everywhere!

That’s the whole thing. 😎

Notice the good.
Say the thing.
Leave the card.

And run. 😂💜

Welcome to the Grateful Neighbor Challenge™.

Now go free a grateful. 🌸

Nice to meet you, I'm a bit much 😀

And mostly kind, fairly bright, sometimes frustrated, wildly imaginative and hopelessly curious. I've been told I'm a great storyteller. I notice all sorts of interesting things and I really do love my life. You may have gathered some of that from my recent reels. 😂

But, I'm a very human human, and along with the flowers and optimism comes the serious stuff too. Not that I'm not serious about the flowers, cause I absolutely am.

I work full-time as an Advanced EMT for a very rural ambulance service and I also sit on the Select Board in my tiny town in rural Maine. Both of those roles can get VERY serious.

And I think that's part of why my imagination, my ability to find the good, and my absolute NEED to leave anonymous grateful cards for strangers are so strong.

I balance the trauma with whimsy and love.

I love my life. I love your life. And I do know what it's like to not.

And if you don't love yours yet, I'm here to help🤩

Also grateful for my overactive imagination….most of the time😜
