Glacier National Park Conservancy

Glacier National Park Conservancy We are the official fundraising partner for Glacier National Park. A century from now, what will people find when they visit Glacier National Park?

Nearly 3 million visitors are expected to visit the Crown of the Continent this year, and over 100 million people have passed through the park gates since its establishment as a national park over 100 years ago. What will we leave the next generation? The Glacier National Park Conservancy is the official fundraising partner of Glacier National Park and the only philanthropic organization dedicated

exclusively to supporting Glacier. While federal funding provides for Glacier's day to day operations, the Glacier Conservancy provides resources that support exceptional projects that the park cannot do on its own.

For years, visitors hiking the popular Johns Lake Loop faced a major safety problem: part of the trail forced hikers to walk on the road's edge. This was dangerous for pedestrians and caused congestion along Going-to-the-Sun Road.🚘

Last year, National Park Service trails staff built about 350 feet of elevated boardwalk that extends safely back from the road. The trail features an elevated design to protect the plants below.🌱

Thanks to donor support, this new boardwalk shows how thoughtful trail design can increase access while protecting the very reason we come to Glacier.

If you want to learn more about how you can experience the beautiful trail this summer, check out our blog post below!✨

Clearing the Going-to-the-Sun Road for the summer season is a vigorous process every year.

Check out this selection of clips from the 1930s-1940s, which shows park staff working to plow snow from the road (no sound).❄️

Donor support has allowed us to fund the digitization of a collection of historic motion picture film reels. Without this work, these fascinating time capsules would still be "trapped" on fragile reels of film!🎞️

You can view these films from the archives on the GNP website: https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/photosmultimedia/films-from-the-archives.htm
